Sorry mate but I just can't agree! Surely it's better to make a tackle or block with the unlikely risk that you give away a penalty, than allow the player to fizz a ball into the 6 yard box from close range. He's a "quality" defender. I'm sure he can make a block without giving a penalty.....unless of course he's too slow to get there. That said I don't think anyone expected a shot.

Agree completely . As I posted on the day 99% of the time side netting or the street behind the stand. Canavan did what he had to do , all Rod had to do was stand up imho.
I have a feeling Adams may drop him for the next league game?

Funny how we see things differently. Regardless of any narrative.

Right from the throw in where Songo doesn't win the ball this goal was a great example of how not to defend, sorry ROD has to do better.
Not knocking ROD just pointing out the defending was poor and so was the goal keeping in this instance, with doubt the lad hit the ball well but ROD stands his ground he saves it, I try and tell it as I see it just as I did at Manfield when ROD made a very good save at 2-2 I believe and I posted as much.

Canavan is goal side of the striker and the ball fizzes along the byline and past OD. Can't for the life of me see what else Canavan can do, he's narrowed the angle perfectly. The striker is in an almost impossible position to score from and the only defence the keeper has is the speed of the ball. from that angle, the Keeper should be at least pushing it out for a corner, I'm not knocking OD, just pointing out its a goal that 99.9% of the time wouldn't be scored and the keeper should have done better. Whoever he is.

It's freak goal and there's no blame on Canavan from me.

I agree this board would be very boring if we all had the same opinion. However I can't agree that Canavan did what he had to do. I know you wouldn't necessarily expect a shot on goal from that angle but he has to stop it going into the danger zone

The post mortem on the first goal is irrelevant. As Adams said himself our goal was under siege from HT onwards and it was only a matter of time before they scored. They'd already fluffed some clear chances and looked to have already had the ball over the line after it had bounced down off the underside of the bar. The facts are we as a team were well beaten. The endless debate on who should take what proportion of the blame is immaterial.

sorry mate I disagree. Forget about the shot on goal. Canavan has to stop it going into the area. By the way yes ROD should have done better too

That is a far too balanced and reasonable view. Well done !

What else canavan can do? Err, not let him get past him get a shot off? That shot shouldn't be even getting to O'Donnell, same with the second one.

Yeah, fair enough. You and @Rogered Tart@Rogered Tart are probably right. So blame shared. But there's still no way R'OD should be letting that in.

Agree with that mate, i'd say a higher level keeper saves both goals, more so the second than the first.

I wasn't just blaming ROD but both goals were easily preventable. Let's hope he doesn't have many more horror shows like this otherwise we will struggle to make top 7 never mind top 3.

Yes Canavan is definitely part of why that goal went in along with Songo for missing the first header. Still doesn't explain why ROD fell to his knees rather than stay upright to save the shot and prevent the goal. I will knock any player who performs as badly as ROD did on Saturday. Be interesting to see who DA plays in goal for the next league game.

Can’t believe some have said that it was appalling for Canavan to let the attacker goal side of him when the ball bounced, if AO’C had done that we’d be going mad and rightly so he was stuck in treacle and totally caught off guard same with RO’D. Both were at fault and both are professional enough I’m sure to hold their hands up afterwards and say they could have done a lot better. It’s not always just one persons fault for a goal it’s a team sport and as hippo said we were under siege anyway. Lower league football goes like this sometimes even those near the top play crap it’s about how we respond. I remember when we spanked Brentford 4-0 early season, they went up we were mid table.

Without commenting on the keeping Canavan did the right thing seeing him to the line how the ball found it’s way into the net from that angle is very unusual

I agree, if we had scored from there we would be claiming it as a 'worldie'..

It was 2 ft in play ! Replays at the time showed it clearly if you watch closely. Rest agreed.
