You’re not going to win. It’s got to the stage now where any criticism is taken personally by some of our fans. I get they want to stay positive and defend Edin et al, but sometimes they are defending when there is little justification.

It’s obvious the Doyle’s would release their own statement after being told the news whilst on holiday. Why the club hadn’t prepared a statement and released this immediately after speaking to Colin, only they will know.

But no, it’s not the club at fault. As usual, it’s the player, the fans. Basically anyone but the club....!

 

Essentially yes but that's a little bit too simplistic. We've offered him what we think he's worth and Colin clearly thinks he's worth more. I seem to remember Edin saying something along the lines of the contracts they offer are 'take it or leave it' which doesn't suggest there is much room for negotiation. That's all well and good if we have a replacement lined up who will cost the same or less than keeping Colin would AND they are as good or better than he is. If that is the case then fine, it will be a good decision but if they have nobody lined up to replace him, or they do but they are not the same standard or better, then it is a very foolish decision indeed.

It was publicised on here, twitter and facebook that we had offered reduced terms - not the case.

I dont understand what Doyle has done to earn a wage increase??? He is 33 as well.

Id be happy to keep but the club must have someone lined up. Doyle said we going in a different direction so probably told him we are after someone else.

Well actually you are mistaken. A 3 year deal is MORE money than a 2 year deal.

 

And yet he still claims I’m the most aggressive and argumentative poster on here. He has daily arguments with a number of posters and often over-steps the mark with some of his criticism verbals

 

I’ve heard this reputation thing a lot... is it actually true?? As I’ve not heard anything to suggest this is true other than what people with an axe to grind have said! Infact the opposite has been said from people within the game.. They’ve said they have the right attitude and a good to deal with..

Every chairman in the land will drive a hard bargain and try do what is best for their club, Edin is no different so I don’t see how that means they have a piss poor reputation

 

You think they've 'probably told him we are after someone else'? If you believe that is the case does it not alarm you? If they are only at the stage of being after someone else , how can they be certain they will get them? You don't sack off an experienced and good for this level keeper unless you are CERTAIN you can replace them with a keeper as good or better surely?

 

Yep bring back the days where we signed a players brother Just to get his signature!!

 

Why would they? Completely different scenarios. Doyle was offered a new deal and those terms couldn’t be agreed, so instead of asking to meet him when he gets back from his holiday (or before he flew), they withdrew the offer.

Law and McMahon were told they weren’t to be offered a new deal and I’d guess, they probably knew this before the season ended.

Actually, thinking back to last pre-season, didn’t we sit around waiting for McMahon without withdrawing his offer? And we knew he was all set to sign for a rival, but still kept his offer open? Then when that fell through, we were more than happy to complete his signing.

Not the same thing at all????

The club are right to apply a deadline because if Doyle was not going to sign they need time to find a replacement. However the impression I get is that Doyle thought they were still negotiating and the withdrawal of the offer has come completely out the blue to him. As someone posted earlier maybe it wasn't about the money, maybe he wanted 3 years instead of 2. Maybe the club see GSK as no 1 by then. Either way they have handled it clumsily
