He is an employee of the owner so why would he have a say? The owner decides things at high level and then Sparks implements them to the best of his capability

 

You're well off the mark. Whilst Sparks is an employee of Rupp, Sparks has the highest operational role below Rupp and therefore with that role comes significant responsibility, which includes high level decision making.

When Rupp appointed Sparks he has empowered and put his trust into Ryan to make key operational decisions.

 

Quite right Storck. The other Director is Alan Biggin who is Company Secretary and has been on the Board many years.
CEO is not always a Board position.

 

He has massive responsibility but in most organisations the CEO reports to the board rather than sits on it. Large organisations will often have two, one an executive board of employees who make up a senior management team and the second the actual board of non executive directors who have the final say on everything

 

Yes operational decisions rather than board level decisions. So I think I am spot on with why he isn’t on the board of directors.

Rupp fully owns it, what he says goes. He can listen to the likes of Sparks and take their advice but ultimately its his train set, he decides who plays with the loco.

Would it make a blind bit of difference? For years I’ve been the director responsible for a significant part of our company’s activities as has my colleague for her part of the business. Neither of us are listed as directors at companies house. We attend the monthly board meetings and the annual meeting alongside those listed at companies house.
I can’t think of a single thing about my day to day or strategic role that would change if I were a ‘proper director’, I’m probably bound by the same laws by acting as a shadow director, I certainly act as if I am.
Sparks will be in the same boat, whether he is a ‘member of the board’ or not, whatever that means, his role wouldn’t change a lot if he was.

I'm sure @wetherbywhaler will give you the answer, I'm suprised @Fordy117 has never applied to be an "Associate Director" that would be an interesting situation.

 

I wouldnt worry about this sort of stuff. The club are in good hands.

as fans its our job to turn up on a match day and cheer. And have a sulky rant on here invetween when we lose.

 

They pay a fee each year to the club and then can pretend to be directors with some of the benefits and help the club free of charge where possible,

 

That's a tad cynical. They are all very much dyed in the wool BCFC supporters who are prepared to put more than the price of a season ticket and a pie each week into helping our club progress.

I honestly cant see why anyone with BCFC at heart could, or would even want to be critical of them. OK they are living their dream to be part of the club, at a cost, but hand on heart if someone said you could pay £500 to sit on the bench with a number 9 on your back, can you honestly say you wouldnt be tempted.

 

That's fine as a revenue generator but in the dark days some of these guys were representing us at FA hearings and whatnot. It's not a bloody social club Sunday League side, it's a pro football club. Thank goodness the standards are being raised, long may it continue.
