If we did offer peanuts and it wasnt acceptable to him why didnt Doyle go and start looking for another club 7 weeks ago?

Wasn't that keen on Doyle to begin with but was clear when we had Rouven in net the difference the lad makes. Shame really, we should be keeping players who want to play for the club.

 

He's gone because he's left it too long but this only applies to Doyle and not the other 4 or 5 players who were offered contracts at the exact same time as him? Okay I've got it.

I guess it’d have been ok though for Doyle to have signed for anyone else over the last few weeks?

Maybe Doyle should have signed the contract - even on reduced terms - to prevent his holiday from being ruined?

Also, how do we know it was the club that instigated it and told Doyle? Perhaps Doyle went back to them during his holiday to say he wants to sign the contract, but then the club told him “sorry, too late”. Thus we are where we are.

 

Or maybe we've been offered another keeper, so no longer wish to negotiate anymore ?

 

Much as I would have liked Doyle to stay, it isn't him being jobless that I am worried about. I am worried that we will end up with a keeper hopelessly out of his depth....and we all saw the effect that had on our defence last season

 

As I say I blame his agent if he has been taken by surprise by this

 

I’m not even sure we’ve phoned him up.

It could well be he’s called the club saying he’ll now sign the contract offered (as it’s the best deal he’s got out there, all things considered), but we’ve told him it’s too late now. Could be as simple as that as to where we are now.

Which in the past has been the usual way. In many cases the first time you don’t know a player is not resigning is when he signs elsewhere. Which will probably be the case with Dieng
