I cannot take a lecture from someone who thinks holding a bottle of Budweiser makes them look cool. :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

Good on him. Bud Light and Coors Light are cracking lagers from a bottle.

What's Skol taste like? The main reason I've never tried it is the low ABV, which doesn't reflect well on me TBH.

I've tasted it many years ago but I can't remember what it's like to be honest. I'll always have a soft spot for Skol after the Viking adverts from the 80s.

Errr. Nobody can remember what Skol tasted like,,,,,,,,,,,because it had no taste. Let us face it lager is lager, cheap to make, tasteless wish wash, American or Czech, it's soda pop, fizzy southern slop, of which fancy marketing for the trendy bar brigade is its only appeal (Vikings, Prague city square, for eg), and only good for one thing. Under 18s buy it to look cooler than Dad, over 18's should know better.

On a more positive note, the local independent real ale industry is tasting and looking good.

Stop being a snob bear. I grew up on Tetleys and Barnsley bitter, have been a camra member for years but recognise the worth of Czech, Bavarian and Italian lager beers(all real ales) especially on days like today.

Most lager is tasteless pish. There are some decent ones like Budvar, but most of it is Iike drinking alcoholic water.

I'd hazard a guess you've never been to Belgium. Over a thousand beers and the tens that I've tried (some of which are at a supermarket near you) are definitely not alcoholic water.

Alan Hay (Head brewer at Timothy Taylor at the time) told me Tetley was made from the dishwater of Leeds. He was right its naff. Adams will be a great manager for City. Can't wait for the first signings of a younger more mobile team.

50 years ago Tetleys was good, sadly it declined when European accountants took over its running. On the plus side, we now have many good micros and continuing on the Viking theme, a York micro has excellent brews called Viking and Battleaxe.

Try sitting in a beer garden in Cologne, drinking a cold glass of Kölsch and saying lager is awful. The perception of all lagers being bad, is the same perception that all ale drinkers wear anoraks, have beards and enjoy a good yomp.

Anyway! Don't we have a beer forum for this sort of chat? We're in danger of being deleted by the admins I bet!

Was still good 35 years ago, then went knack. If you want mass produced bitter as a staple rather than craft ale where you are drinking different each round then boltmeker is just about the best

Agree, as a proud bitter man, a drop of continental lager in the sun goes down a treat. Especially draught estrella

I love Belgian beers (but not sure they are all lagers? anyhow, whatever) and I agree a nice ice cold lager in the sun is a nice drink. Has anyone had “Life & Death” from Vocation in Hebden Bridge? If you like IPA, do yourself a favour and get a few cans if you haven’t as yet.

Yup, I've been to Belgium. I was referring to most of the lagers that are widely available here, particularly in pubs, which generally taste of next to nothing.
I'm aware that more specialist, flavoursome lagers are available. I'm rather partial to a bottle of Cobra with a curry.
