Sparks may have been prompted to offer the contract after the Darragh podcast when the Peterborough owner told him to get them signed up before he did.
If I remember rightly, probably the majority of fans were calling for a longer than end of season contract, because of the form they showed and the wish for stability.

Those who called for a 6 month contract appear to be right for reasons you’ve described, but as with all things City related, we’ve messed up. I sympathise with Sparks because he’s trying to portray a vision of long term planning and by relieving T&S within 6 months, that goes against everything he’s trying to do. As we keep saying, the next decision is vital..

 

That plus the fact that at least 90% of people on here and social media urged him to.just like when the new manager is unveiled he will be hailed until he hits the dust and they didn’t want him all along

 

At the time it was the correct decision, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Hopefully our new manager will give fans some confidence back.

 

Yeah I thought Darragh forced him him to do it in that interview. However, the right decision was always a 6 month contract then go from there.

 

The fans weren’t calling for Parkinson’s head after a long winless run as you have correctly said. That was in our season back in league 1, but they were certainly calling for his head in his first season when we narrowly avoided relegation. Remember the Plonkinson comments, the get this clown out of our club comments. In fact on the old Claret and Banter message board someone posted a compilation of Parkinson insults after we gained promotion under him to embarrass a few posters.

If such was to happen at BCFC, I just feel 'getting rid of a manager 'statements would not be made in the next 48-72 hours, in respect to the anniversary.

 

Spot on. There is no way any sacking/ demotion will happen today or tomorrow

As much as I want rid I have to agree with Dave here, this can wait a few days to a week the club needs to pay its respects to the anniversary a sacking now looks a bit crass to me.
