I'm gonna cut Trueman a bit of slack in that in my opinion this squad was never good enough to challenge for the playoffs. when he took over at second bottom the team couldn't score but also looked like letting at least three a game in. I'd say its nigh on impossible to then make this completely failing team turn around at both ends of the pitch. Importantly, what he did do straight away was make us hard to beat and defensively sound through the side, taking our chances if and when they came.

The players seemed to respond to this pragmatic approach until what was the killer, the Newport game. It was after that defeat the confidence and strutting around of certain players disappeared, couple this with the loss of Callum Cooke and we never recovered. All this talk from the fans about 'letting the handbrake off' and other similar comments, you can't really do that with a team thats shown little attacking prowess all season. Its something the team needs to have in their armoury from the start of the season, and i know from Truemans comments as the season comes to close that he realises we don't have the attacking quality in the squad to do that.

Having said that after the seasons has now ended, would i keep them on as managers. My instincts tell me the City job is a bigger animal than the two young lads and needs a certain type of manager to appease an ever increasingly frustrated fanbase. That said, i don't think any manager could have got promoted after been handed the shitshow at the start of the season by Rupp and Rhodes. McCall to some extent was hung out to dry despite his questionable tactics, we can only hope Sparks has more of an ambition of success than Rupp and captain Admin ever did.

 

I think Parky was a great believer in that type of recruitment, firstly they can play in the position your wanting to cover but secondary they are guys who are good in the dressing room and lads who are very much team orientated.

 

I reckon Parky will end up at Donny in the summer

 

If the club make a statement regarding their intentions for next season I hope they state their aim is promotion NOT the playoffs. The fans need to see a can do attitude from the club. We should start by signing a CM player who is the type of player we can make captain. If not I would make Canavan the captain rather than Paudie. I am hoping ROD will be gone.

Any ideas why Wood all of a sudden got into the starting lineup when he was originally a sub? Something to do with his "consecutive record" perhaps? I thought Foulds did alright when he came on - and at least looked interested. Yes we can knock the players who have taken their foot of the gas, but at the same time, we can feel content that we won't be seeing them again. Wood has been disinterested for a couple of seasons now, and I won't be sad to see him go (unless its on a free). Same goes for nearly all the other players we've got. The only ones who spark any sort of interest to me when they are on the ball are Cooke and Crankshaw. Sutton and Watt to a lesser extent, but I think it's just because they look busy compared to everyone else. Vernam has been a huge disappointment, and looks like another pointless shoe-in as Rowe was.

 

Agree with the last sentence. A statement is merely words and think about the words we have had over the last few years; how brilliant our players are and what they are going to do. It looks as though we are going to have a big turnover with the players but the January signings resulted in an 11% success rate. Hope we can do better in summer and I don't mean 22%.

I can't disagree with any of that really.

But then, here's the thing. Is Morecambe's squad better than ours?

 

Was there a players revolt after the team was revealed yesterday? The main reason for this being Connor Wood being dropped to the bench. The other players could have threatened to refuse to play unless he was reinstated?

 

Very poor if that's the case and another reason why we need to make a change. Surprising Raynor didn't question them on this.

 

Alternatively, the team sheet given to the media may have been wrong. I know things aren't great but this seems a ridiculous conspiracy theory - last game of the season, nothing to play for, Wood clearly on his way - why the hell would Wood or his team mates care whether he was playing or not?

 

Rupp should sack them all for breach of contract if that was the case.
