As I said below we are talking about Wyke and how he has just been as rank as the rest of them

I'll be honest, I'm not fussed if he goes along with most of the team.

It isn't the results that have annoyed me, I've got used to that over the past 36 years, it is the lack of effort.

Where has anyone said Wyke hasn't had a part to play in the slump? Where? Go on, show me. It's a team game, everyone plays a part in good and bad form. Some more than others. My reply was to your remark that we would have won had Charlie hit the target with his header. You do realise that wasn't the only effort on goal from both teams that night. There were a number of chances missed or saved by the keeper that otherwise could have won the game, not just Wyke's chance.

I see both sides to the Wyke argument. The stats provided by Storck are valid and even before our slump in form (or even last season), he didn’t score regularly. But, just like with Hanson, he has to do more than rely on crosses into the box. Where are his runs or why does he rarely attack balls from set-pieces?

The better strikers make things happen themselves. When was the last time he made half a yard for himself and had a shot at goal? He has a good finish for a big lad, but rarely backs his confidence to do it. When Grayson arrived he said we needed to have more shots on goal, but Wyke just doesn’t trust himself to have a pop.

All that said, the service in to him has been poor. If the crosses were good, consistently, he may make the right runs. As I said, I can see from both sides

 

What I find amusing is that some of those defending him, hammered Hanson for a similar record.

 

If you read the post I was replying to the poster said he wasn’t surprised he hadn’t scored because of the service he received from the likes of McMahon. That night McMahon put a sitter on his head

 

He well deserved the criticism especially when you see what he is capable of against Portsmouth

 

Depends wha you class as ‘similar quality’. I understand the club had agreed a fee with Chesterfield for Kristian Dennis and I don’t believe he would have broken the bank.

I’m not saying he’s good enough to replace Wyke, but the club clearly think he was worth a punt. The original logic was to sign him so we could ‘rest’ Wyke now and again, so they clearly thought Dennis was good enough to do this.

That's clearly not true, you are implying that by Wyke missing that chance we didn't win the game. I quite correctly told you there were numerous other chances just as good as Wyke's header. I agree he should have hit the target but thats not the reason we didn't win the game.

Until the season is done 'n' dusted........ Who knows about transfers, or targets !

 

For me 1 goal in over 50 appearences was not good enough from Cullen. He was never comfortable around the box and reluctant to shoot. Odd for a player of his ability imo.

 

I'm not sure anyone has been 'singled' out in the last few months, and if you think he's avoided criticism we haven't been moving in the same social media circles.

He's gone from £2.5m or whatever prices people were slapping on his head to, quick, try and get our money back - both of which are probably ludicrous extremes for a solid centre forward who could fetch £1m under the right conditions.

 

Sorry where did I say by storm? To even get on the bench at his age in the money league is a massive achievement! He’d be the best midfielder in league one by an absolute mile

 

Wells was sold with 18 months left on his contract not 12 months.
