All sighnings are a gamble no matter how much you pay or nationality.
Apart from isherwood i would persume all the others brought in wouldnt have cost alot so if and when a decision was made to release them then it wouldnt have made much of an impact financially on us.
Id be happy with a success story of every 1 in 5 making it from our up and coming overseas scouting network.

Of course it also works the other way. Fans get all excited over a signing writing the usual dross: 'brilliant signing', 'he'll tear this league apart' etc. In all likelihood they've either never seen him play or at best seen very little of him. Then they'll cite his fantastic pedigree with the premiership club. . . . . . . . . . Hull. Then the sht hits the fan.

 

Completely agree. If Isherwood fails it will absolutely be down to Ricc posting a negative thought about him on the forum.

Of course.
Thats why i said id be happy with say 1out of 5 ,what i mean is if a b c & d sighn with the view of developing but out of them 4 only 2 get fast tracked in to first team/squad but eventually only 1 of them earns a more lucrative longer deal by playing his bit in helping the team gain points etc then yes id take that all day long.
Look how many times us and others have paid big bucks in transfet fees and wages only to sit there scratching your head thinking how and why?

I’m sure there were a number of fans who were hoping that with the change of ownership, there could be opportunities to bring in players from the Europe. So far the quality isn’t there, but maybe lessons have been learnt and we’ve raised the bar.

I don’t want us to stop looking (in a different pool) because the cost of buying players in England is distorted when comparing value for money.

That is true, but your original point was “All the players brought in from Germany were brought in as cheap, back up alternatives or for the youth team - not for the starting 11“.

I’d argue that the likes of Saatelmaier, Bruenker and possibly even Raeder we’re signed with the intention of challenging for a 1st team spot.

And, as for “cheap”, you have no idea how much they cost to be here
