Broncs I know its old news but on paper that was some frontline...and without zero service and a crap midfield...they still scored...ish

 

Me too Bronco. The Donaldson situation reminds me of another player from years ago. We'd been after Lammie Robertson for years while he was at Halifax Town and Exeter , a very good midfield player but by the time we managed to get him his best days were behind him.

 

Apparently so. That's my wife sorted next christmas !

As a General he was peerless, the father of modern warfare and a master tactician in and on the field of battle. Without him taking the "western theatre" and securing the Mississippi valley that war would have been lost. All the time he was doing that Uncle Bob was kicking Sheriden & Mead's butt in the Eastern Theatre and Shenandoah Valley, to a point where the war only turned when Lincoln promoted Grant to overall command and he moved across to the east to personally kick Lee's but. Lee & Grant didn't come face to face in battle until May 1864, before then Lee had run rings round the North, after Grant slowly worked him into surrender.

As a president, he was underestimated and underrated. He was responsible for the reparations that rebuilt the south after Johnson had done nothing about it for four years. He also put down the KKK uprising, killed off the attempts to re-introduce slavery, massively helped the American Indians and generally set America back on it's feet, only to be put on it's arse again by his successor who allowed the KK to rise again and stopped the reparation work in the south causing poverty,

Where he failed as a president was in him being too trusting and not a very good judge of people, he wasn't aware of major scams and fraud going on behind his back and ultimately got tarred with the same brush although he was never part of it at all.

Modern historians have actually talked up his standing as president, and despite him being too trusting in business and losing all his money after being scammed on Wall Street, he still had a massive support of the American people and his biography is now viewed as one of the most important pieces of modern US literature. Millions packed the streets of New York to see his funeral, and if you ever go to New York, visiting his tomb is a must. It's massive and shows exactly what they thought of him.

 

When I've been reading SOME of your posts I've wondered if you should change your name to a very modern ex pres but clearly you like this guy.

Might have wires crossed here, can’t comment on Knight as I’ve not seen him but I was talking about Tshimanga who I have seen 3-4 times (and never been overly impressed by).

 

Those were the days. The old retained list being published before the end of the season. Bob Martin at his very best !
