I kid you not but I had a kid, middle name was Martian.

 

And he wasn't just good, he was out of this world.

 

To be fair, at least it's his real name. He's not hiding behind a pseudonym and a slightly saucy picture of Nigella Lawson.

Names are historically an important element in cultural identity. We live in an age which doesn't recognise that. Unfortunatelty, certain racial groups have lost all contact with their cultural heritage and resort to random names that have no relevance to anything at all and are simply invented. Some countries, I think Estonia is one, have insisted that all children have to be given a name appropriate to their national heritage on their birth certificate, irrespective of what they might subsequently be called. They are probably fighting a losing battle as the whole world sems to be heading for a multicultural morass where anything means anything.

 

Pretty sure it's just Romaine with a slightly different spelling/pronunciation.

It's not that weird a name.

Us being called Simon and Jon, we're probably not into naming our kids something utterly unique, but that's largely down to cultural programming.

Off topic, but where i've been working the past few months, they dropped a plane off at the Estonia air museum about 18 months ago. Do you know where the musuem is?
