Match Thread FA Cup 1st Round - Away v Tonbridge Angels

Luckily for us, neither Mansfield nor Southend were good enough to stop our midfield.

For all our deficiencies, and despite the fact that midfield is too samey to cause many problems to the better L2 teams, Tonbridge will probably find themselves picked apart tomorrow.

I'll go 3 or 4-1 to City.

Can't see us scoring many more than 3 as these games are never as easy as they appear on paper, but also because we aren't ruthless. 3-0 at half time against Southend, you've got to be looking to add a couple more but we sorta just lost all our momentum and began looking leggy.

 

is it penalties today or a replay?

 

Definitely no replays in the cup this year, not sure if extra time before pens though?

There are 9 so called non elite teams left in the competition after Skelmersdale lost last night. If any of those progress to the next round, they will not be able to train or play any league games between the 1st and 2nd rounds due to lockdown.

 

Tonbridge won't need 'em.

I'm actually looking forward to this game. Its definitely a potential banana skin game but it's what the FA cup is all about.... The cup shocks and all that.

Hopefully we see the game out, which I think we will. I had expectations of a league push this season but feel very let down by the club whereas with the FA cup, no expectations so I'm just gonna try enjoy this game.

Anyone found today match streaming to watch in Spain?

 

I'd expect a harder game than Tuesday, that's for sure. They will be organised and disciplined defensively unlike Southend and that may make it tough for us.

They've just lost 6-0 on aggregate across their last two league fixtures.

They got beat 4-0 at Oxford City.

We can't just pretend their defensively solid because it suits the narrative that we're not doing well

Its a cup game, its on TV and they're a non league side who've worked their backsides off to get into the first round proper for the first time in god knows how many years. An FA cup 1st round is their cup final this season, so yes I expect them to sit back, defend deep and be disciplined in what they do. And thats where I think we struggle as we don't have much creativity in the squad.

I imagine you're right, but they're going to play to whatever strengths they have. They might be hopeless at sitting back. They might be better attacking us, who knows.

I don't think we'll struggle though, not at all.

I'm most worried about picking up an injury or two - imagine if we lose a makeshift forward, it will have a knock on effect - we're so incredibly light up front, I can't remember a situation where we were so thin anywhere on the pitch in quite some time.
