Bowyer would have been slated for that today. You can play this 532 away from home but it’s not a tactic to use when we are at home. It’s too easy to stop when they just sit there and try and counter.
Gotta get some bodies in at the top end of the pitch. Predicted a draw today. Just can’t see where our goals will come from currently. A mid table season

Typical league 2 game, didn't look in much danger of conceding but then neither did Colchester. Be a long season if its like that every week.

 

It says it all when Clayton Donaldson gives there defenders more problems in his 16 minutes he played than Guthrie and Novak did all the game.

 

It was okay. Nothing more than that. 6/10 performance.

Desperately need so quality, guile and pace upfront though.

Never thought we were hanging on. A draw was a fair result but I thought we were marginally the better side. Should have brought Novak off instead of Guthrie. But defences were on top

no point in getting a forward in if those behind him don't get on the ball to try and make things happen.

you're right, Bowyer and many other previous managers would be slated for that performance. from the last three matches i've watched it seems our tactics in the first half are to bypass midfield and try to get the ball to stick up top and play off that - get to half time still in the game and then try to get the midfield two on the ball more and try to play a bit more football in the second half.. but that's a waste of 45mins in my opinion.

We're not quite there.

The result isn't bad, but it's unfortunately one of those that is so uninspiring on the first game of the season when everyone is desperate to get excited.

It is what it is.

Need something adding to this squad, someone out wide perhaps to force the issue and make things happen.

Too conservative on the ball, always cutting back for the easier pass.

Also pace up front definitely missing.

 

That sort of result/performance is ok away from home but for a home game that was truly awful.
On a brighter note Staunton will keep some holding onto if he keeps developing and playing like he is.

 

Clearly not good enough. McCall better use his ipad and fast.

And why not play French as well? Couldn't have done any worse than Dylan today. Just get him in the team.

 

i know it's early in the season and nobody should be getting too carried away yet but if we continue in this vain, people will be returning to Valley Parade (when we can) out of pure loyalty - not because of the product on offer. it's going to be a long winter ahead.

 

needs to improve on his use of the ball though and that will come with time and experience - currently too quick to just go long down the line. unless that's what he's been told to do by McCall though.
