Match Thread Bolton Wanderers (away) - Carabao (League) Cup

Apparently Barrow lost 6 of the first 8 last season and that turned round. However as I've said I do think he's on thin ice but injuries at Crewe may get him a win tonight.

 

Bolton do intrigue me. Evatt is still relatively inexperienced as a manager, they have signed a lot of players who are unknown quantities as in they have played a lot of non-league, and a lot of young lads, supplemented by the odd experienced pro.

It might be just me but I’m not sure where their “favourites” tag comes from, I can see them being well outside the top 6. I seriously think we have have a stronger squad than them on paper.

 

No loan player in the squad at Bolton. When was the last time we didn't have a loan player in the squad?

The favourites tag comes from lots of people betting on Bolton and driving down the odds. That's about it in my eyes

 

What is wrong with having a loan player in the squad?

 

The only reason they don't have a loan player or won't, is because they have an inflated squad size.

 

Looks like they have splashed out on a few big signings and then brought in group of lower league players on low wages and they hope the manager can bring on , I guess like he has at Barrow.

 

I think the worries about Evatt are very premature.

Bolton will be there and thereabouts, come the end of the season. Some bumps along the road but he has proven himself already, admittedly at a level lower.

I think back to a certain Paul Jewell.

 

Bolton's best player(Tom White) is on loan from Blackburn.

 

Football history is littered with managers and teams who had very successful one off seasons. A season with Barrow with limited expectations was a different kettle of fish to Bolton.

 

It’s a long transfer window and a long season with games coming very thick and fast this year. No one can be wrote off just yet.

 

Agree so far Bolton have not won a friendly or otherwise this season, they play Crewe tonight a team who have already put 3 passed them without reply, I uderstand Crewe have injury problems so maybe a better chance to get a result.
Then they entertain FGR on Saturday and we all know how they set up for an away game.

Don't deny that but a victory for Bradford is not a reason for some, to be dismissive of Bolton.

Evatt will be learning. He will adapt. Bolton will be a learning curve. Looking at his past credentials, I suggest he can adapt. He was one of my choices, along with Pete Wild before Macca got the job. I like the idea of newbies getting a high profile job and not living off their past, Bowyer, grayson...

Can I ask you it this way, if we was to finish above Bolton, how good a season do you think we will have?

No they beat Atherton Collieries 3-0 on August 1st. Then bamber bridge 7-0 on August 8th and then Loughborough university 6/0 on August 11th. then as you say Accrington so won their first 4 without conceding a goal
