Yeah not for me regardless of what Park says, no doubt he’s has a couple of good seasons at this level recently but never kicked on and at his age the next season he could be washed up. It’s a risk as we’ve found out time and again with ageing journeymen looking for a last payday. Personally I’m sick of them, I’d rather someone in their prime which is unlikely in our position so the next best thing would be an up and coming player for me which is more realistic but we’d need to do research.

You're right, it would be a risk signing another ageing forward, especially one that has made it known he would prefer a club closer to his home. With Vale also interested, I would think the only reason he would choose us over them would be if we offered him much better terms, and I don't think we should be pushing the boat out to sign a player who will turn 34 in a few months. If he did end up with us, I would hope it would be on sensible wages and on a one year deal; it would be madness to offer anything more than that.

 

I would take Rose over him too. However, no doubt Mansfield would require a decent fee , and according to McCall, no club are paying fees in our league, conveniently forgetting we paid a fee for Watt.

His overall and particularly his recent goal scoring record is excellent and his overall football is good a much better signing than Rose in my opinion who spends most of his time on his backside according to some Mansfield fans. Look at division one and two leading goal scorers over the last couple of seasons and you will see many are over thirty Doyle and Maynard last season in division 2 and Henderson and Paddy Madden in division 1

How can we hope to be self sustainable by signing 34 year old strikers, especially when nearly all our strikers are the wrong side of thirty. Surely our priority should be to sign an up and coming striker with a potential to move on for profit?

 

He's nearly 34 actually but aside from that, the thing that worries me more is his remarks about wanting to be closer to home. I just think as a club, we need to learn from things that have happened in the very recent past, and that's why if he did come here on more than a one year deal, I would think the club had been very foolish indeed.
