I agree. As a concept, the Development Squad is a great idea .. but it can't be done on the cheap. At the moment, our financial structure and the owners' idea of a self-sustaining club will not provide the resources for a first team capable of pushing for promotion; a development squad separate from the first team squad where further investment in young talent might be required and an ageing stadium where there is a backlog on investment required. Something will have to give.

On the Archie front, part of the issue was that Archie convinced ML in particular that it could be done on the cheap and it couldn't. But more importantly, even then the EFL regs required that those involved in coaching younger players in a development squad type set-up had to have the appropriate coaching qualifications. And it later transpired that Archie had no coaching qualifications to do the job.

The 14 year olds will all go to Man City or Leeds if there good enough let’s be honest.

If they show real potential, they won’t stick around at city

Yeah I think it’s good that they give all the kids an open trial pretty much via the foundation which Ian Ormondroyd and all those guys do a very very good job. They hold little training camps in the summer holidays and go to local schools which is great for spotting a little gem early so they can recommend him to the academy.

I think it’s great that we played the young 15 year old lad in the checkatrade last season. Hopefully we can put a few youngsters in that competition next season maybe 16-18.

I’d like to see this George Sykes-kenworthy be given a chance the goalkeeper apparently he’s been training with the England under 18s
So he can’t be that bad

I've seen it myself when I took my grandson to the "Goals" trials, it was funded I was told by the likes of Manchester City, there were coaches from Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and others, and as you say they get first dibs oc te kids on show.

That is a good point. That is why if parents can see there is a better way of progressing hopefully by example we can convince more of this type to join us

I thought you meant it had been done better elsewhere. I understand now, you mean it is being done better at city.

So I think differant players develop differently obviously. When McBurnie played for us, he wasn’t the McBurnie of today.

But could that also be down too Swansea’s training, I have watched videos about McBurnie on Swansea’s YouTube channel where he’s in hydrotherapy pools and ice chambers and stuff, real elite development.

Say if Reece Webb foster had similar elite coaching he could better.

    Does that make sense?

We have your players 18-20 but there not getting championship/premier league coaching and strength and conditioning , so there development is not going to progress as much

Sorry if I’m not making sense at all.

Not bitter at all Park, just passing comment. I did watch that squad (along with the rest of the Board in its first game) and in three other games spanning the management of both Jacko and Parky. Phil would tell you he liked one or two, eg a full back called Burns (now at Barrow I think) but that in all cases they were not equipped for League football long term. Probably the reason they were released in the first place which actually makes my unbuttered point.

I agree the standard was pretty poor but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done better which in my opinion it is now.
