This was one of the biggest shocks to my system when I moved to Bradford from Essex in 1980. All the chippys down south stayed open until at least 11pm (in the days when pubs closed at 10.30 on weeknights) and usually midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, when the pubs called time at 11. And most were open all afternoon from about midday. A bag of chips on the way home from the pub was great.
But all the chippys in Bradford shut well before pub closing time. And lots opened over lunch, then shut, then opened from 4-7 only. Unbelievable!

I've never been to Shimla Spice post beer. Often go before going to a gig at the Live Room in Saltaire, or just for a cheap but tasty meal out. And also takeaway if we can't be arsed to cook. Delicious.
Just because you can't tell one curry from another doesn't mean that everyone else can't either.

Nah, you have 'curry sauce' instead. Tastes like 1960s Vesta curry from a packet. Utterly disgusting muck.

Noble Comb Shipley, I didn't want to go, it looks chain-shit, but didn't want to be rude after my invite.

The decor was bleedin awful, drab, like a care home, it made Shipley Spoons look glamorous, everything was cheap, tired & nasty, but durable in a hospital chair way. The menu was startlingly bad, similar to an Aldi freezer inventory, pizza, burgers and of course...... chicken, oh yes a lot of chicken. I don't eat meat & that's not big deal nowadays? But there was just one thing suitable for me on the menu, Margherita bloody pizza. This was utter garbage and no better than any £1 frozen pizza and I ate one slice.

0/10 Honestly, I looked around at the place, the food and the drink choices and I can't think of any reason why a sane person would choose to walk through it's doors and part with money.

Just had a look, not much there for veggies at all really which is very surprising these days. Loads of people I know have either gone veggie or decided to eat much less meat. Jacket potato, macaroni cheese, halloumi or margarita pizza is limited to say the least.

Wife and I went to Matt Healey X The Foundry (what's that name about?) for her birthday yesterday.
Nice decor and atmosphere and very good, friendly service. Stonkingly good full bodied malbec (albeit £40 a bottle). So far, so good.
    The food? Not so much.
It's all small plates, brought out in random order as & when they prepare it. Now I've no objection to this idea and I enjoy a good selection of tapas. But for what they were charging - mostly £8/9 per dish - the portions were tiny. We were advised to order six dishes between us; I could easily have eaten all six myself. One consisted of three small sprigs of cauliflower with some herbs and spices sprinkled on.
We'd ordered salted almond nibbles - which were excellent and plentiful, plus the sourdough bread with various spreads and dips. Thank goodness we did, because they were really nice and meant I didn't leave still feeling hungry.
All the food was nice enough, without being stunning, but overpriced and undersized. Thankfully we had a £50 voucher as a Christmas present so we weren't too bothered about the bill. But I'm in no hurry to go back. A triumph of style over substance, I'm afraid.

Funnily enough I'd been reading, earlier in the day, about a Lancashire food producer called the Nowt Poncy Food Co, which was formed as a reaction to Nouvelle Cuisine. This felt exactly the sort of offering that they were reacting to.

Not exactly on topic but a T&A article with 10 pubs/hotels for sale. It includes 2 that are probably on North Parade?

Anything, as usual, we went out for a meal but after 4 bars & 4 drinks had spent £60 so decided to go home. Another drink in The Fox Shipley (rammed) & pizza from Asda.;)

Ate at the Adelphi in Leeds on Friday teatime. Absolutely bouncing with after-work drinkers - think we were the only table eating.

Enjoyed it. Steak pie a classic of the genre for about 12 quid.
