And I bet they played on, not like these pussies today that are out for a month if someone catches their bootlace!

 

At school, we used to paint them up and give them names. We even used to transfer them for about four quid each! Innocent days, where the only “swipe right” used to be to get some curl around an opposing player

 

I remember the cardboard ones. Bent pretty quickly. I also remember looking at all the available teams in a catalogue and taking a liking to the quirkiest. My favourite was Alloa Athletic who had black and yellow hoops and white shorts. It was the white shorts that did it. Me and my mates had several teams each and leagues that contained many divisions. Endless fun. There was also a subbuteo rugby that involved standing a disc on its end and rolling it towards the tryline. Kids today eh? Don't know they're born. Still have a soft spot for Alloa. Watched them win promotion last year.

 

And what about Test Match Cricket with the metal ball and realistic bowling action?

Hours of fun (until the ball went under the sofa).

Is it the away kit?

 

I have an older, un-named, version of this that dates, I think, from the 50s. It was given to me by my uncle Bill. It has aluminium surrounds that link together to stretch the pitch flat, an aluminium bowling chute, and a heavy metal pendulum, operated with a string, for a bat. You can aim the bowling chute off centre and put spin on by pressing down on one side of the ball bearing. Bloody great fun.

 

This sounds like a game my mate had called Cricket at Lords. Very weird but hours of fun.
