I remember a striker a few years a go who we were after who moved to Doncaster because he had been on loan there and was impressed with the manager and training facilities despite the fact we offered more money. If it is a massive difference in money yes but actually talking and selling the club to a player face to face instead of solely through an agent can only be a good idea.

Genuine question. Why did we end up with these players? Why couldn't we attract better than that?

 

Chicksen impressed when he had Mark Marshall on toast.

 

Every player impresses once a season! Decent going forward. Poor defensively.
He's not good enough to get us promoted and I'm pretty sure that's what Grayson told Edin too.

 

I think you mean Andy Williams he went for more money I believe, because he was reidiculed on here for not wanting to play in front of large crowds, think he was a legend in the same way as Alick Jeffrey.

i think we made him a better offer but I read an interview with him and he said he had been on Loan at Doncaster and liked the facilities and manager so chose them

 

From what we've see of his time at Doncaster I'm glad he didn't sign for us.

 

I'd imagine it's like most professions. Players will consider

1. The financial package
2. The working environment and culture - playing style, facilities
3. Location
4. Chance of progress/Success
5. The management team

Different things matter to different people. But for most, I'd imagine that the most heavily weighted factor will be the financial package.

 

Incidentally, a fully fit Marshall didn’t make the squad of 18 in the play off semi final second leg. Great move that turned out to be.

Mixed messages from Edin. On one hand he doesn’t want to buy a whole new squad if we get promoted, yet on the other he states the idea is to develop players and sell them on a profit. You can’t do both, although I do understand certain players will have a price. Personally don’t believe a word he says but would happily eat humble pie if proved wrong.

 

In my later days of working with the Doncaster lads ........... He was a waste of money, and his appearances reflect that. A born 'sulker', was their view. As a Striker - His way or no way .............. It went no way !!!!!!

 

We wish, far better than anything we currently have at the club.

Good point and probably not. The strange thing is he took ages to answer the question of if he wants Bradford city to succeed or if he wants to make money. I can’t see where they think they will make money with this model. £5m or whatever it was will be very difficult to recoup when you are not buying the best young talent at the going rate!

 

The trouble with that plan is that you are simply let your infrastructure decay and putting off problems until they become major issues like we have now.

 

He was scared to play in front of our big crowds too.
