I'm sure Greg has said publicly that he would not want the job.

    I'd much rather he'd said:-
"We're gonna offer very tempting wages for exceptional young talent and if we find an absolute diamond Stefan's said he'll give BCAFC a minuscule fraction of his massive fortune to get them on a long contract" ;)

I think anybody who has like myself worked in incentivesed jobs and being self employed will tell you that you work twice as hard to make an excellent living.

I am sure you are correct and God willing his health improves
Edin can be a very persuasive man he obviously thinks a lot of Greg
Just a niggling suspicion in the back of my mind

Footballers are no different to you and me @Petrov@Petrov, if two companies were head hunting you and one said come to us we'll pay you £20,000 a year and a % of any savings you make the company whilst your here, and the other company says we'll offer you £30,000 a year, which would you take ?.

    Good point.
It's miles more interesting discussing what has actually been officially said.
An official but relaxed interview like this is far better than fighting over rumor / counter-rumor.
I hope Edin does do these regularly.

Have we got anything to say that the difference between what we offer and what the going rate is? I'm surprised we sign any players at all if it's so massive in percentage terms.

But if another came along and said I will pay you £20.000 but if you do well you can double your money I know which I would take. And it doesn’t half help team spirit if one member of a team is struggling and is going to affect your earnings you do everything you can to help them through. Ask anybody who has worked in a sales team

It appeals if the £20k bonus is realistic. If not, you take the £30k guaranteed.

Would you think promotion was realistic if you were looking at Bradford City from the outside?

I didnt say you were. I'm just asking whether we know the difference is so significant.

If we use the same example you used but the figures are 29k and 30k does the position sound more reasonable?

Some ITK thought we were paying 50% less than the average. Bermondsey knew a bit more with his contacts.

But football is a completely different issue, OK lets go with last season, and forget the situation around the New Year we have players on % bonus's for winning which is all great until you start getting long term injuries to your (better players) Wyke,Reeves, Jones, Chicksen, Patrick, McCartan, McMahon, Doyle, all players who had varying time out injured one could say making the starting 11 weaker and possibly struggle to get results as the lads who were brought in weren't as good as those missing.
If you have a first team squad of 20 like for like players ability wise I could see players might accept it, but when they know when a Charlie Wyke gets injured we are not the same team going forward as with Doyle when either of the other two keepers came in we looked like a team who couldn't keep a clean sheet for the life in them, the whole back 4 were awaiting the next clanger which made them less efficient.
In a normal job yes I can see advantages my lads in the foundry were all piece workers and it was very successful but even there if we had a situation where through no fault of their own the could not earn (machine breakdown) they had the fall back of getting "average earning".

It was used as an example I don't have a clue what % the club would offer to players the way Edin spoke it is not acceptable to most British players and rightly so.

But to answer your question I would always take the the bigger deal because it's there every month.

I take the point but I still think incentivised pay gets the best out of people in all walks of life including football. And as I say it helps teamwork. That doesn’t mean to say we shouldn’t pay more where it is merited as we have done with several players. It’s getting the balance right. And as I say it helps with team spirit. It seems to work in Germany and we have seen the quality that comes out of there

If you remember when Stuart came back down from Ranger for his second spell at the club big Geoff offered incentive bonus's based on league positions on a month to month basis, IE if they achieved 10th place they got £x but if they achieved 9th they got £xx and so on, Stuart got the squad together and said very much the same as you've said "do we fancy this challenge" and if so what about all or now't, we know the rest and big Geoff often used to quote how much that particular incentive bonus scheme had cost him, (as if it was his money), when we all know it was Dr Rhodes money ;).

It's a strange one that, there is no doubt about it the Germans produce some great players but in comparison to other countries there are very few German player plying their trade in the Premiership now we know the top teams pay I would think more than most would earn in German football, I wonder why that is the case.

Incentivized pay in football can't work
If you are a striker with goal bonus and get no service whatsover(CW) then it's not your fault your wages are down
If you are a midfielder paid on assists and the striker misses every opportunity
If you are a defender paid on clean sheets and your keeper is rubbish
Just a few examples why it won't work
Have worked in sales for 40 years and if your office staff make a hash of your order you won't get another one. If taking a position with such pay structures you need to be sure of the rest of your team otherwise it breeds resentment.

No - you can rely on a big resistance from some fans who are quite within their right to question something that does not appear to be working / not worked or not consistent with what the owners say they are going to do and nothing or little happens.
Communication carefully thought out before making statements or issuing them needs to be a priority.

I've always found team bonuses haven't worked. The weaker members of the team got hostility from the others and the top performers felt they weren't in control of their earnings. Where bonus is concerned you want to feel a high level of control. That It's in your hands to deliver. If you are relying on 10 others then you're not in control.
