Conceding first goal!!!!!!!!

Maybe Bowyer puts a both team to score bet on. I've heard him and Wimbledon wally had a syndicate going.

 

For some reason we start really slow and it seems to take half time or going 1 behind for the players to kick into gear. Off the top of my head can only think of Oldham where we have started well, all of the other games we've been very slow for at least the first 20 minutes. Whatever is the reason it needs to change soon as we can't keep giving teams a 1-0 head start or only playing for 45 minutes

 

It's mainly down to lack of pressing, slow tempo and pace.

In other words Bowyer is negative. Worries about the teams we play rather than letting them worry about us so we back off and they score.

 

But in the 11 league games we’ve only let the first goal in 4 times

 

And won two of them and drawn a third -- 7 points already from trailing positions, when last season we managed one. Crewe have won, I think, about 4 after letting in the first goal; I've no idea how other teams have done. So it's not necessarily bad, provided you have a team that responds in the proper way. So far we seem to be responding appropriately.

(Of course, if the first goal comes at, say, 90+3, there little any side could do -- cf. us and Forest Green.)

For all I agree, in part. As with the OP question ....... We shouldn't really be a question of 'responding' - We need to play to avoid responding and there we need to get the first foothold.

 

And until Saturday hadn’t we scored the first in all our away games?

 

As above, the first goal isn't the worry it was last year, as we have been coming back well. The bigger concern is 1 clean sheet in the last 9, even with a keeper on probably his best form since joining the club. Big shame as i thought we started the year off really solid defensively.

Consistently??

 

That's total rubbish.

All top 8 teams bar Cheltenham have a goal difference of 5 or 6.

Quick look shows that we have conceded 3 goals in the first 40 minutes of the games so that total blows the consistently conceding early goals out of the water. Conceding after half time is maybe the bigger worry which could be down to concentration and fitness.

 

Concentration for sure, Marshy. Take your eye off the ball, or lose focus at the wrong time, and a few teams have punished us. Just a shame we can't / don't punish the opposition quite as much ?
All about reading the game, and finishing, huh.

 

I've no problem with conceding the first goal.Its like giving the opposition a goal start to make a game of it comeback and win 3-1 happy days

Don't forget we only went behind on Saturday because of an incredibly harsh penalty decision. The ball was smashed at Mellor from two yards away. His arms weren't in an unnatural position and he couldn't possibly have got out of the way. If this is how the handball rule now works it's bloody ridiculous.

 

Bang on. Similar thing tonight in the leeds game and wasnt given because of how close the lad was to the ball.

 

Again it’s the inconsistency why I hate refs so much, totally a joke at times.

 

To be honest I don't mind (as long as we don't end up losing). I have a tradition of putting a small bet on halftime/fulltime each game. Odds generally start at 30-1. Last season, not a single one came in. This season has happened once (Northampton), but I can definitely see it happening more. We've got that little bit more fight in us than last season. Maybe a little more complacent too, hence going behind to teams.
