This might be wrong, but at the supporters event earlier this year didn't the majority indicate they'd rather spend money on the pitch than a new striker/players? TBF they are doing that.

    They've learned to lower expectations.

Sadly, yes, the Bradford City Horticultural Society were out in force.

    They also requested an arboretum.

I don't get why when there's plenty of past evidence that it's hardly just about luck etc, that you now think that's the only way it will happen

Burton, Yeovil, Shrewsbury (?? we'll see in the final) even Millwall last season (were they demonstrably better than us? - how much luckier can you get than a goal that could have been ruled offside?) are examples with the first three not having the best budgets in the league

I actually find it amusing that we've gone from, when we first arrived back in this division with an optimistic attitude to doing OK,. even though we wouldn't have the best budget, through to reasonable optimism during the next few seasons (again even though the budget was never Top 6) to this militant, hostile, moaning stance.

The budget is probably little different to previously and we actually make cash signings. But no for some reason we're now doomed

Maybe some fans should be more level headed about their expectations, realise that owners often 'talk' up their ambitions when they first take over, rather than making out that unless we've got lots of money we've got no chance - despite proving this theory wrong for the previous two seasons

Actually, their idea of slow but sure progress is the best one. It didn't do Burnley, Huddersfield or Brentford any harm - each of these clubs had plenty of backward seasons, with the first two in particular having fans constantly moaning about their supposed lack of ambition - before becoming competitive

In addition Tan at Cardiff has shown that been more realistic with the targets and softer in general approach, yields results

We'll have a budget that will be within 10% of, say 20 of our rivals. That means the difference will come down to players brought in and what the coach can do with some of the talented younger players we bought last season

But if you and lots of other moaners want to kid yourselves that the only way is immediate money, money, money then fine - but I'd suggest you've been playing FIFA18's Career mode, with the easy setting, too much

Remember, Scunthorpe have done what you've wanted for two seasons and got nowhere. They will now probably have to reset their ambitions downwards, they now have a squad which has more or less the same value as ours, but are saddled with players on higher wages who won't get any better plus need more players than us

How do you get from that interview that they have learnt nothing? We all know they wouldn't be setting a budget to compete with the relegated clubs or the clubs with more money than us, we knew from Rupp's interview last week that the club would not be put in a financial mess, we knew that the club wanted to promote younger players.

From the start the new coach will be expected to promote youth and development, that's not a yes man that's a chairmen asking the coach to be a coach.

Do you seriously think we will be relegated next season?

Maybe the lessons learned are raising expectations and interfering with the coach on tactics etc, although I doubt that. Edin believes the way clubs are run in the EFL is crazy. He is n’t wrong. It is crazy but it is what it is. The majority of owners believe you have to gamble but he thinks he can do it a different way. Personally I think he is wrong but he is going to try it. He could defy the odds and get lucky. If it works great, he’ll be happy and we’ll be happy. If it does n’t, I can’t see him staying around too long. He certainly is n’t prepared to gamble his own money. The money needed to get out of this division is nothing compared to the money needed to go up from the Championship. This looks like a 10 year plan with little chance of success. Grayson obviously did n’t believe in it.

Tougher season yes but I just can't see us going down, I really don't think it's got anywhere near that bad.

    We'll see though!

I would hazard a guess that the pessimism is based on the last four months of the season.

We would be relegation fodder on that form, suggesting we need to improve.

There are plenty of examples of clubs that shouldn't go down from their division but do because turning around abysmal form is not easy.

Our form did not end in April.

Just like Sunderland's did not end in April 2017.

We need to hire a very good manager and improve our playing squad or we are bang in trouble.

I know its none of my business, it was aimed at the fans who have bought one and then moan on here how the club is run. Either buy one and accept how they are destroying our club because by giving them money you are allowing them to, or dont give them any money until they run it how we want them to.

No I’m not agreeing that he should’ve been sacked.

‘Good for them’ was aimed at Yeovil.

I thought we lost one of our last eight?

I get your point, but that will apply to most clubs - at this stage no-ones got a great squad and I also think there are enough explanations for that form, i.e. the disruptive February, injuries etc - these are conveniently 'airbrushed' to maintain the narrative about us going to the dogs

Let's remember, some of the team, that remains, got us to third in November remain at the club

I refuse to believe that at team with Killa, McGowan, Robinson, Wyke and yes even McCartan / Kai will be that bad with a few additions or re-signings like Doyle who wants to stay

We're in no worse of a position that at least half of our rivals and money wise, if it's average for the division then we're o worse of on that score either

We need to see past the last four months, Sunderland is a bad example as they had seasons of doing poorly - a bit like us in the noughties. Last season, Shrewsbury, nearly got themselves relegated last season after looking fairly safe a month before. Charlton ended last season poorly and rebooted. MK Dons ended last season well and are now in L2

I prefer to look at the facts for the future, no assume the past dictates the future

So now I am a ‘militant hostile moaner’ because I challenge what Edin is saying. You are good at adding your little labels to ppl who have a genuine different opinion to you. Don’t worry I won’t be adding any labels to you as a poster.

Burton on the way down, Yeovil in the bottom of league two. Shrewsbury may make it, but I doubt they will overcome Rotherham.

Your long winded indulgent post, does not sway. You have described in great detail the human condition of the long suffering football fan, others have described it in less words. Of course you want more once you have been in the league for some time, that is normal for most ppl.

The owners had it in their grasp but failed to support the manager, it is as simple as that. So we are where we are, with a plan for what I am not sure, no mention of timescales or ambition apart from blooding youngsters into the first, tick, but has to be at the right time for the youngster not the club. A coach beyond any of our dreams for league 1, yea ok whatever. A competitive 1st team, well no doubt we will have 101 views on that count. What we don’t have is a plan B, like last season!

It is all hysteria from the millennial generation - they want instant success and use social media to vent their anger if they don't get their own way.

Remember the hysteria when McCall was appointed by Rahic?

Please name them. I'm fascinated as to who these fascinating business gamblers are. Or are you thinking of Geoffrey Richmond?

Most have quite a boring realistic expectation, i.e. Barnsley. Some have a plan, stick to it and have the personality to whether the flak when it takes years to get going. Some do push the boat out, but look where Leyton Orient, Yeovil, Darlington and Notts County are now

But please name these gambling owners

If there was evidence of it ever working then I maybe persuaded to join in, however the biggest examples I can think of are Blackpool and Coventry, empty soulless grounds where the clubs have horribly regressed horribly. Give me examples of when mass non renewals have worked by all means, but until then no I strongly disagree he has a point. And I certainly don’t think people have the right to judge those who want to renew through the bad as well as the good.

    What is better?
Edin investing in the pitch, ground, club infrastructure and young players for a sustainable future or Lawn and Rhodes shit or bust every season ?

I seem to remember Lawn/Rhodes 'shit and bust' running out of steam in L1. Delph money, Wells money, Cup money......i can't remember us paying a fee for a player.

There are no facts for the future; that's a cast iron fact in itself. That's an infallible guarantee. There are none, it's impossible.

That aside, Sunderland isn't a bad example; it's an example of failure to turn around form. Shrewsbury is an example of a success in turning round form. You can't say Sunderland is a bad example because it proves my point and not yours. You have to look at both.

We have to do what Shrewsbury did - and for me, teams that turn things round (like Blackburn, as well) either have enormous resources or go back to basics and tighten everything up from the coaching squad to the playing squad.

We look like continuing to play it loose with a big squad without direction. We're in more danger of following Bury than Shrewsbury UNLESS we show a level of competence in recruitment that has been missing up until this point.

Brunker is a relegation-level player, for example. 0 goals, and expect that to continue.
