    Jailed for 10 weeks..

    Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders has today been jailed for 10 weeks at Chester Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to failing to provide a breath test when he was caught in an 'intoxicated' state behind the wheel. The 55-year-old (pictured left arriving at court this morning and right on the pitch during his illustrious playing career), has also been banned from driving for 30 months. Saunders had initially denied both charges at an earlier hearing but pleaded guilty by letter yesterday.

    They get a lengthier ban, fine and have to go through a medical with a doctor to prove they are fit to drive a car when they get their licence back? I know drink is involved but surely you just have to just put your hands up and take the lesser punishment. It doesn't surprise me in the reports of Saunders coming across as arrogant. Comes across that way on the radio and when you see him being a 'Pundit' in the studio.

    I suspect it will be a permanent ban by Sky. Who recently was also dropped by Sky after a court case? Just slipped my mind.

    I have been banned but I didn't refuse breath. It was someone I know who acted like Saunders thinking he was above the law and he got banned before I did, I've now got my licence back and he's still got another 18 month left. Strange for Saunders to plead not guilty initially? What did he expect to happen?

    He might get out after 1 day as he is appealing on the grounds that the sentence is too harsh. His lawyer has asked for bail.

    He was probably going to attempt some sort of defence along the lines of a medical reason he couldn’t blow.

    10 weeks? He spent one night in jail before putting in a bail application that was heard behind closed doors. He is now on bail until an appeal in October regarding his sentence
