Top of the league?

    With there being half a chance of us going top on Saturday, it got me thinking, when was the last time we were ever top of the league? I really can't remember it ever happening, don't think McCall managed it?

    I doubt it. First game was a 1 0 win, I can't see that putting us top.

    So I've looked into it a bit further. I believe first day of the prem we were very briefly top as we had an earlier kick off and were top alphabetically after a 1-0 win.
    We were top of lg2 on 13th Sept 2008 after winning 5 of our first 6 games. That looks to be the only time we have done it this century

    My understanding is that there were four other matches that kicked off the same time as us, on the first Premier League Saturday, that produced winning scores better than our 1-0, so that would have made us 5th.

    Im pretty sure he's got it wrong. I remember results coming in and I doubt every other match finished 1 0.

    We went top in Jim Jeffries first 3 games after relegation from premier league, we beat Barnsley 4-0. Pompey 1-0 and Coventry 2-1 on a Friday night. Thought things were going really well but then there was a supporters forum the week after and it was the most depressing I have been to. Jeffries spelt out the financial mess round the corner, revealed Richmond wouldn't let him sign anyone.
    We have never been top of premier league our 1-0 win at Middlebrough was played at same time as other Saturday games with teams having bigger wins than us that day.
    I think McCall did have us top of league 2 in 2008/9 season when we started by beating Notts county 2-1 , Macclesfield 2-0 , Rochdale 2-0 ,lost to Aldershot but then beat Port Vale away and Exeter 4-1 giving us 15 points from first 6 games.

    I think that website is quoting times as in GMT, so 15:00, i.e. 3pm British Summer Time.
