Getting rid is a lot easier said than done. I fear we will be stuck with 3 or 4 big earners that Bowyer would probably rather move on

Agreed, You've got to get someone to agree to taking over his contract and pay his high wages what he's currently on, or Doyle willing to take a pay cut and who in any line of work is willing to do that?

Donaldson and Vaughan are injury prone ,whatever Doyle was like last season, we need a third striker, and those two are not going to go through a season without layoffs for injury. Like him or loath him Doyle is all we have. at the moment

Yes I was there and passed a similar comment at the time, but generally I believe he was no worse that any other player last season to single him out and say he missed sitter after sitter is complete nonesense.
We had 3 managers over the season and not one got what we expected from any of the players we signed for "big money" Wright, Riley, Akpan, Doyle, Scannell, there are several criteria in any deal that need to be met before it goes throught, the first being does the deal suits the player, does he want to go, we hear how good the dressing room is and how training is chalk and cheese compared with last season he may fancy staying fighting for the shirt and showing what he's capable of with good players around him.
At the moment Bowyers team selections seem to point to Doyle being the odd striker out but IMO that's not a good reason to get rid.

    Completely agree on almost points.

For much of last season there was discussion about the need to add 'presence' up front. Some equate that to needing a big striker. But for me, presence is about retaining the ball in the final third to give your side a platform to attack and build pressure. There are different ways to do it and it's a part of every strikers job.

Look at Vaughan - similar size to Doyle but in an hour against a championship side, his movement, touch, awareness of what was around him were markedly better than Doyle showed at any point last season.

Doyle will go into the list of former players that have been a complete and utter waste of a wage, id carry the waste of space to Salford.

Doyle, Akpan and Riley gone - happy days.
Strengthen the squad where needed with cheaper, younger and better players and some savings in the accounts too.
The reality of shifting them - tougher.
I think getting rid of 2 out of the 3 can lead to 3 good players coming in for this level and the level above in terms of wages

I'm very relaxed about Doyle. if he stays then that's okay with me, think he'll do okay for us in a better side, and we need a 3rd striker.

if he goes, it's a big wage to have off the bill and might open up more possibilities in the market.

Unfortunately this some of the legacy of the " I know football" con man. With the lack of quality or character and the high wages some of these players were given - allegedly in their contracts - they will be difficult to move on. Perhaps loaning them out and subsidising some their wages might be an option.

I’d pay them off, if you don’t want them around get rid. Applies in all forms of employment. Man Utd would do well to subsidise Sanchez somewhere else. Same applies to City. You’re paying them whether they’re playing or not, if they’re a hangover from a time you want to move on from then it makes sense to have a clean slate. If Player A is going to be miserable because he’s not playing and disrupting the rest of my squad he can go.

Indeed. He even agreed that O'Donnell played well in the Wigan game. @Ricc@Ricc does indeed know football! ;)

Even if it was the other way round, 8 or 4 is an appalling return for a supposed goal hound predatory striker. Especially one who offers literally nothing else than alleged goal threat and even that's debatable. He isn't good enough and certainly isn't good enough to keep around on the wedge he's on. I would much rather Bowyer be given that budget to spend on his own man as within about 5 minutes he's signed two strikers who are head and shoulders above Doyle and look far more effective in almost every area of their game.

Why do people think it's just Doyle, I personally have poured scorn on every failure from last season for the bits of their respective jobs they didn't do, and cumulatively for a lack of effort/application. Akpan is built like a tank yet is as intimidating as a tea kettle, Josh Wright typifies everything wrong with last summer's recruitment policy and is one of the worst centre mids I've seen at city period. Doyle when presented with chances invariably missed them and offered nothing else in terms of link up play. They all fully deserved the pelters just as players like Caddis and O'Brien deserved praise for showing some basic professional pride and doing their job regardless of what was happening around them. Even Kai bloody Bruenker showed more desire and determination than most of that lot which to me is absolutely unforgivable.

And yet, this season I was really hoping I'd be proved wrong. In some cases I have, Riley looks very tidy and Gibson looks to be getting his head down to name a couple, even AOC has a bit more about him. Yet Doyle and Akpan look exactly the same.So to say he's being singled out is the nonsense in my view.

Waste of space is OTT. If he doesn't move on he will be a member of the squad who should have our support like everyone else wearing the shirt.

Yep, like we had the 'waste of space's' support last season where he falied to break sweat, as we finished bottom of a mediocre division. He can do one, hopefully along with many others of the spineless crap from last season.

Unfortunatly strikers that are not as prolific as some fans believe they should be will always be singled out because you usually get the right result if said strikers are doing their job.
Last season was a car crash waiting to happen, players brought in that the new coaches had very little input into.
You are correct let's not make Doyle a scapegoat for last season, plenty of questions were asked with regards Wright, Akpan, Riley, Scannel, O'Connor and the like.
If we have to get rid before we can bring other players in I would personally prefer it to be Akpan, Riley, O'Connor.
