Restaurants and stuff

If you trawl back a few pages you'll find I said the self same thing. Knocks the Classic Persian into a cocked fez IMHO.

 

The chips look anemic!

They do. But why eat chips in a Syrian restaurant?

 

Why not?

 

Well obviously you can eat anything you want if it floats your boat.
But if I'm going to a restaurant that specialises in a particular cuisine then I'd rather eat things that are part of that cuisine, because that's why I've chosen to eat there, and they're likely to do those things best. I wouldn't eat chips in a curry house or an Italian restaurant either for the same reason.
The point of my response to @BradfordBanter criticising the chips was that you wouldn't judge a Syrian restaurant on the quality of the chips. But, according to @Fools Gold , they were actually decent chips anyway so it's all good.

Yeah. I know you didn't. My initial response was a bit of a throwaway comment, as was yours. It doesn't merit a long discussion.

 

Can't beat throwing a few chips in a curry, all tastes the same when its slopped in with the curry and rice.

Me too. I love chips. Particularly with tomato ketchup and mayonnaise. And with fish & mushy peas. Or eggs & beans. Or pie. Or steak.
With Syrian food, not so much.

It's either pie. Or it's pie and mash. Surely. If it's pie and chips your chips get all soggy innit.

 

Yeah, pie and mash if you've got gravy, definitely.
I was thinking back to my student days in the early 80s when steak (or chicken & mushroom) pie, chips & beans at the magnificent Italia Cafe on Great Horton Road was a big part of my staple diet
