Oh come on please engage your brain. Hopkin was clearly told to reduce the wage bill and he couldn't handle how to do that in the correct manner so made players train on their own when it was a time we needed togetherness.

Hopkin then tried to belittle the players with "non league" comments.

Hopkin as a manager was an embarrassment.

Look at the in's and outs of what he's done to get his next managerial post.

Collins and Hopkin were a massive mistake for Bradford throw in Edin as well and for me I can't blame the players. You try working under clowns then come back to me and have this conversation.

Zero sympathy. It's a competitive industry in which they're well paid and in which to be successful, you need to be amazingly talented or of robust character. Preferably a bit of both.

No issues with whatever their contracts show as a weekly wage - we gave them willingly. But when you repeatedly show the same lack of desire and quality, you lose the right to complain. I've never seen a more gutless bunch in my life. Oh, but 'the manager was a meany'.... give over. If he'd manned up a bit, along with the rest maybe they'd have emerged with some credibility and we wouldn't have been relegated. Look at the likes Caddis and Lewis O'Brien as examples. Frankly, these comments just underline what a gutless mincer Josh Wright was - and where he gets it from.

At least this post is more focused on things that have been out in the public domain and therefore closer to reality but I'm still struggling to understand your point. Your last paragraph seems to suggest Hopkin was behaving in a certain way and he was right to do so because of the people he was reporting into and who were owning the club. Your argument sort of lost sense at that point.

 

Most of us have worked under clowns at some stage in our lives. Doesn’t mean you down tools yourself and lack any pride in the job you do.

And you call yourself a businessman? How you cannot blame players is just stark raving bonkers. Funny how the likes of Caddis, P.O’Connor, O’Brien (both) and Doyle didn’t let the backroom issues stop them from trying..?!

Exactly right. You only really see what a person is made of when they’re tested. That’s how leaders are defined.

It depends on the person you are dealing with. Some do not respond the shouting and bawling technique and the arm round the shoulder gets far better results. Remember, this clubs season wasn't ruined by individuals like Wright and Riley, although both offered little as a player, it was ruined by Edin Rahic and his decision to employ useless coaches like Michael Collins and Martin Drury, and an even worse recruitment guy in Greg Abbott.

During our “history makers” season we played Torquay away on Easter Monday. The players car park was right behind the main stand.....the standard of vehicle was staggering, predominantly German models or Range Rovers. This was at Torquay, average crowds less than 3,000.

A few years earlier, Colin Lee was Manager and was looking to rent an apartment of somebody I know who has some properties in and around Torbay. Lee told him that Torquay have to pay over the odds for players to simply get them to move to the area. How they balance it all up god knows

Whilst understanding Hopkin action. I think the better way was how Bowyer did it having resentment in players doesn’t help and also hinders moving them on when the time comes

 

Whilst I get the sentiments of what you are saying, how do you know Collins was a useless coach? He got fast-tracked into the role and given 6wks, working with the squad assembled by Rahic and Abbott. He actually had a better points per game than either of his successors, who had less ‘input’ from him that knows football.

Fact is, he may have been a good coach - we will never know
