A quote from Stefan Rupp in August

Rupp, August: “We have invested in what we believe is a very exciting and talented squad. We have a good blend of quality, youth and experience. We have a group of players who are fully committed. They want to play for the badge and fight for their place in the team. This season presents a massive opportunity for everyone involved. League One is a tough division but we have a much-improved squad, featuring players capable of achieving. Michael Collins, Martin Drury and Greg Abbott have Bradford City at heart and we are delighted to have them in charge. The recruitment work done by them over the past few months speaks for itself. We want to improve on last season and desire, which we have in abundance, will play a big part in that. If we are in the promotion mix come the end of the season it will be fantastic. But this is a long-term project for us and a great deal has already been achieved."

    A good find Park.

It would be interesting to read Rupp's own views on how this season has progressed against these expectations which he created. Maybe it's something that our two resident club ambassadors @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler and @Glenn Ackroyd@Glenn Ackroyd could raise this with him at their next meeting?

They were fine words in August; but we now know them for what they really are! Just words. And I suspect his 'long term project' has now evolved into a much longer 'long term project'. Much has indeed been achieved but not as most fans were expecting.

If he is still with us at the start of next season, I wonder what his fine words will be saying in August 2019?

Hope he has a better handle on his investment going forward.

I'm not sure what else he can say really besides owning up to mistakes made (which he has done) and providing a decent budget (as promised).

The crooked accountant with a pipe dream taught us all a valuable lesson.

    Okay, I’ll say it....

I was very impressed with our transfer business last summer - I think most were.

    Of course we have underachieved.

Just goes to show money isn’t everything, you need to give it to people who have a clue how to build a squad. It’s a squad game not individual, shame he didn’t chuck that budget at Parkinson, McCall or even Grayson instead of that imbecile and I doubt we’d be looking forward to Crawley next season!

That view certainly isn't shared by me (and I suspect many others) and wasn't last summer after the transfer business had been concluded.

Each to their own, but on paper we still have a very good squad of players.

Sadly, football isn’t played on paper.

How he thought Collins and Drury would do a good job is concerning and highlights to me the lack of involvement he had in the club at that time and i don't know if it changed because if I was him I would be questioning why we have handed a man a 2 and half year contract who has lost 6 in a row.

To be fair @Dennis@Dennis there's only a non footballing man could come out with a statement like that, obviously Rahic had prepared him well, but there were many on here accepting what had been done but very skeptical of how it would turn out, we could see how we struggled in our first 6 games before Micheal Collins sacking but worsted still neither Hopkin or Bowyer have got any sort of consistency out of this squad.

That is fair comment @Bradford End@Bradford End on paper our recruitment looked better, most posters were not questioning the players but the coach in charge and many made that comment, ironically 6 games into the new season he was sacked

His own sporting world is competitive motor racing and he will know from his own experiences that shit happens on the race track just as it does on the football pitch. There can be no absolute guarantees in competitive sport but having raised expectations as he did, he has that responsibility for that. I've no idea who prepared the speech for him and I suspect nobody really does. But the next time his fine words are about putting things right or supporting the manager in the January transfer window (which we now know came to very little) or providing the latest manager with a 'competitive budget' (whatever that means) let's just recall how previous statements have come to very little.

The players looked ok, nothing to get excited about but ok. What really give me the ebie jeebies was the Collins appointment. All summer waiting for a manager and we end up appointing the Youth Coach!

We also looked a bit short, he was relying on his world beating young uns!!

I doubt Stefan wrote it. Signed it off though.

Thing is Fordy, he doesn't have a clue about football, it's not his thing. He was wrongly relying on the deluded idiot Rahic.

At least in Rhodes we have a man who has actual experience and someone Rupp can genuinely trust to do a job for him. I'm guessing the GB appointment was very much Rhodes' and Rupp is sensibly giving the decision making around the team and management to him.

Let's hope a few other clubs think that and take most of them off our hands in the summer.
