50 applicants have so far put their name forward for the job and imo, it's them we should be concentrating on, not an ex manager that may or may not be interested in returning. Maybe Julian could convince him to come back but at this moment in time, I don't think we need someone that needs to be convinced to come back, we need someone that wants to be here and has already put their name forward because they believe they are up for the challenge ahead.

 

Spot on Bronco. Tweets claiming they only wanted him appointed to watch the melt down with ‘thoroughly nice chap’ fans, not sure what that means. There are those that want him appointed because they hate 80% of fans. So wide sweeping statements of the character of fans and general devilement seems to lead the discussion on Twitter. Like you I don’t think Julian will be making any phone calls in that direction as @Offcomedun outlined his actual football credentials which don’t bare much scrutiny.

 

I'd suggest Phil Parkinson and his knowledge of our club would give him a massive advantage.

 

I doubt Parky would need to hand an application in too.

Of course he wouldn't. The point I'm making is there is absolutely no evidence at this stage that he wants to come back. If he does and he contacts Julian and/or Stefan to say so then great, but if we ignore the 50 applicants that do want to be here to focus on chasing an ex manager whose heart may not genuinely be in it, that would be a huge mistake imo.

 

Whilst I think the chances of Parky coming back are almost zero if there was a glimmer I would pursue it. If not there are one or two interesting candidates there. But please get the right guy and make it permanent we don’t want to start the summer off the same as last year

 

Whats this fixation with Parky possibly coming back? He was the right man at the right time. He’s gone, a few years ago. Lets move on, loads of decent candidates out there.

From what I gather someone (who has been massively wrong before) tweeted to say Parky was interested or a target (obviously) and Twitter blows up. As it does!

 

But since he isn't the right man for the job, for the reasons I've outlined that you conveniently ignore, they won't appoint him.

Fixation? The best manager in our history. Turned a a club looking like heading out of the football league to a top League One club, a league cup final, play off final victory, magic FA cup runs, year on year improvements. Have I sold the fixation yet? Nobody’s CV will come even close to matching his.

I think Rhodes keeps in touch with Parky anyway so if there is any chance he will be aware of it

 

He is a legend here, but he hasn't replicated that elsewhere. And i do think there would be an expectation for him to do it again and he wouldnt be able to. Fans would turn on him and his status disolve. Plus i think a simlar manger in hopkin failed because the players didnt suit his playstyle.. I would expect parky to have the same issues. Best to keep looking forward imo, get Hurst or Gary Bowyer in

 

Kind of agree but the aim has to be to stay up this season.

In my eyes giving Drury the game on Saturday is pointless but I can understand why the board has.

If it's a short term but keeps us up to get the job then fine like a Lennon situation at Celtic(win title and you stay) but they've to able to bring their team in now.
