We have 42 at £1,625 a week, so you can draw an average of £3.5m as you say.

    Scunthorpe have 27 first teamers at £2,400. That's £3.3m.

They're in the play offs; we're not.

Trim the fat already, and bin off this stupid development squad crap and sign the best players on higher wages.

Letting Rory leave was criminally poor judgement.

I like the idea that match day takes over your town, bars are packed and the place is bouncing. unfortunately the reality in this country is somewhat different. Maybe its an English thing i don't know.

@Rogered Tart@Rogered Tart .. A perfect example of what I posted earlier. Take some data from an unknown source without knowing what is and isn't included in the data and draw some uninformed conclusions from the data without the proper context!

It doesn't really matter about the sums of money, to be honest, the main thing that interests me is that big, fat squad sizes with bad balance and some very poor options is a shite idea.

Gijon and Oviedo are comparable to Bradford as in that they are northern, provincial, working class one club cities. There it ends, the build up starts hours before KO in the bars around the ground, we wander in from miles away, to no bars around the ground. Which is one of the reasons why I am always in favour of relocation.

Anyway....................back to wages I'd take Huesca (pushing for promotion to La Liga) to beat Bradford City 9 times out of 10, yet they'll have a way smaller budget?

Its not just the two clubs you mention, i watched the documentary about Deportivo and Celta Vigo and their intense rivalry. There seems to be a connection and passion between the people of these cities and their football teams, a pride not only of their teams but also their city as well. I have never known that in all the years i've lived in Bradford, there is no connect between the people who live here and the football team and the city. Just look at people walking up to the ground, its almost apologetic.

You're missing a few crucial details.

Football often starts at 6 PM in Spain, and as late as 10 PM.

Football drinking culture in England is, and has always been, the absolute worst, bringing out a different kind of arsehole. While I'm not saying other countries have absolutely no issue with fan behaviour, England has essentially tried to stamp out drinking ahead of big games because English people are off their heads when it comes to combining alcohol and 'passion'.

That's why a lot of big games start around 12 PM, and why closing pubs prior to kick off is known.

That's an embarrassing cultural blight, and maybe why you feel it's not as awesome as Europe pre-match.

The cities are much tighter, La Coruna & Vigo are very similar to Gijon & Oviedo, sizeable populations but in very small geographical areas compared to the UK, in these places a good % of fans can easily walk to the ground and the stadium itself is a social focal point.

I don't agree tbh, it's 2018 not 1975, fans treated like decent human beings. will in general. respond positively. But I can assure you that pre-match in Spain revolves pretty much entirely around alcohol, I've not noticed any difference to the UK in consumption...........as much as possible.

I just see a game missing passion in this country. I'm not sure as to the reasons why, maybe its a lack of a feel of community in Bradford? I don't know. It might have something to do with the general feeling that the game has lost its soul over here due to the amounts of money involved. i guess there are a few reasons as to why.

You mean the country, or Bradford?

Lack of community in Bradford would be a cause if you accepted the rest of the country was fine and dandy, but I think you're talking about the English game.

I don't think lack of community in English cities is a reason; perhaps like @abbomf@abbomf implied, we've actually gone too far away from the idea of passionate support altogether; like it's dangerous.

But, to be fair, maybe it is. In Germany fans can certainly sit together; in England, it's unfathomable given how stupid people are.

Can't stand, can't drink, can't smoke, can't fart, it's not "normal" for people wanting to go out and enjoy themselves at a football game. Last person to "sell" the club was BFG, now and for a long time, no posters, no flyers, no screens no physical connection, no nothing. Worse it's now like some monolithic corporation selling baba to desperate baba buyers, a stadium tour of a long term crap provincial northern club with faded seats caked in bird shit, really, WTF?

Need to re-engage from a realistic base point.

To be honest i'm not sure, just throwing a few suggestions out in the hope something might click. Your third line make some sense, its almost like showing passion is frowned upon, not the English thing old boy.

I walk from Oak Lane with my lad when evening games are on, no one we pass on the way to the ground has the faintest idea there is a football club there let alone a match on. How can you have a 'community' club slap bang in the middle of the community when that community has no passion for the club. Why is there such a general malaise between the population of this city and the football club? We go on about the loss of clubs from built up areas to out of town new builds but thats exactly where Valley Parade is yet its terrible for a match day experience. Most times you wouldn't know a game was on unless you were a fan inside the ground.

This is basically what Huddersfield did and ended up being promoted to the Premier League.

Its certainly an idea that has merit.

Spot on. Mean or Median would work better, average just takes the cost divided between numbers we did have 42 players at one point so our average would be lower than most teams with 30 players and doesn't factor in that Wyke could be on £10k a week and Gibson on £100 a week

I think that's harsh. Walking down lumb lane and Bowland Street, we regularly get asked by locals what the score was. The match day experience is so much more than what you get within 100 yards of the ground. I doubt many "new stadia" clubs have a "north parade" within striking distance of their ground.

North Parade is so overated, went a couple of times on match day and sacked it off. Just boring.Thats not a matchday experience in my opinion.
