They are now where we were when we let him go - League One with Championship aspirations. A couple of years of 'development' later, surely he has to factor next season?

The lad is 20 so it's now or never. Loans to non league sides is cool and all, but there is nothing to suggest he was worth keeping on if he still isn't League One standard.

I think the error, is to judge it on one player. Barnsley have had this system for around three seasons, I believe Danny Wilson - similar in character to PP, didn't like the change in philosophy and hence lost his job at the first opportunity

Mind you neither did the fans when they were bottom of the league in December 2015

But it appears to work to a degree (they did have one of their best Championship seasons in 16/17) but they do buy a reasonable number of 20 somethings, as opposed to ploughing everything into 'youth' - a bit like we're doing

The problem for me, in the Championship, is that you'll tend to have to sell them and replace with riskier players, just to stay afloat and then run the risk of what's just happened to them

As I keep droning on about - I don't see any other way and if you look around, neither do plenty of other clubs

 

Yeah but I did ask if their development squad has seen anyone break into the team that WASN'T part of their academy?

Because if not, it's not working.

I recall beginning of this season Rahic (or puppet Greg) telling us we'll no longer have to bring in loan players to develop for other clubs, we'll have our own to develop. How many loan signing did we have throughout the season. Seems we'd nothing worth developing.
He's in cuckoo land, and so is all that subscribes to his bollox !

 

Agreed, the idea of not having to rely on loan players as back up is good in theory, but it's a shame most aren't anywhere near good enough to be that, and I think January showed that with Hanson being ripped a new one and Robinson having to play out of position.

 

He never said that we wouldn't have loans coming in but we want to become less reliant on them to form a big part of the team and squad like we have done in recent years. Instead we want to be able to use our own young players to cover for injuries.

 

Is this lad still with us, if so, he must be in the same reclusive club as Jake Reeves

 

He came in as part of Edin’s shambolic development squad. He mustn’t be showing anything in training, he came from Barnsley. He is tall though and a striker, but young, 19?

 

He said on Twitter earlier this week that he is fit and available.

Didn't he score a couple in pre season? Can't think he could possibly be any worse than Panzer and given the current lack of options on our bench, I'd be tempted to stick him on there.

 

I think you are right, he might just be ones of those that lights up when they are in the 1st team, this is me clutching at straws.

unfortunately, someone at the club decided the manager was crap and we didn't need new players.

 

He was out injured for quite a while but he's now back in training.
