Billy Clarke returning???

Never been keen on players returning to the club.
It's a no no for me.
Getting rid of the deadwood is the priority.

 

A big no from me. He didn't show enough in his time with us - and age is no longer on his side. We can and should aim higher.

 

I was never a great fan first time round but can appreciate others saw him as a good player.

I'm not sure he has the kind of skills we need. Not fast enough for the sides. Not strong enough in centre midfield. Not a real up top at the top forward. We don't need to pay more money out for someone who isn't what we need.

 

Absolutely agree. Can’t remember anything from his previous stint here that fills a much needed gap we have at the moment.

As Hopkin says in his T&A interview today, priorities are a LB, winger and target man. Don’t see how Billy Clarke fills any of these positions. For me all this signing would be is a back up for Payne or competition for Ball for the remainder of the season. Further than that, potentially an option for next season.

All that said, I’d be disappointed if this materialised.

 

I liked him as a player but he is not what we need at the moment, There must be surplus good players not getting in teams in the championship that we should be chasing or even Premier league players with the huge squads they now have like Surridge, Bringing in cheap cast offs is not the answer to our needs,

We're amply covered in the Billy Clarke position, and would rather see Ball and Payne behind the striker.

As poor as Doyle and Miller can be, Clarke just wouldn't suit the centre forward role imo.

 

As I said in another thread, I'd welcome back Billy Clarke. As others have said, he doesn't score enough so he wouldn't be coming back to play in a striker role. But what if ball or Payne got injured or suspended? We're fecked. I couldn't think of a better affordable backup got those two.

 

We need options in our squad and I don't think Billy Clarke gives us this. Too much like we have already got.

 

He'd strengthen our terrible bench massively, for that reason alone I'd say yes.

 

I wonder if Clarke is seen as an alternative to bringing in Ball permanently, freeing up a loan spot for another player.

 

If you're going to do that then get rid of Miller. He brings nothing to the team.

 

Just recovered from a bad knee injury. Too much of a risk and now 18 months older.

 

I presume we are stuck with Miller for the rest of the season though?. He truly is a poor player. Apart from being able to run around like a headless Bantam, he offers absolutely nothing.

 

A target man is obviously the priority and I wouldn't usually want an ex-player with recent injury issues back, but if we can get him on the right deal I think he'd be a welcome addition.

We are short in numbers and a player that was always brave enough to try and collect the ball and make something happen could help this team. Southend showed that if you take Payne out of the game then Ball & O'Brien can be easily managed. If Payne, Ball, O'Brien are out of form, then having someone with the character and experience of Billy Clarke to call upon would be welcome compared to what we currently have.

I’d take him back on loan until the end of the season. I think he’d have to start on the bench but, as Bantam2708 said above, if anything happens to Payne or Ball, I’d rather have Clarke coming in than Patrick, Jones or a rookie kid.

We will get knocks in the months ahead and there will be games where Payne is knackered from being outnumbered. Clarke could inject impetus.

We haven’t really used Ball as a central forward but he can play there. Imagine Payne, Clarke and Lewis O’Brien linking up behind him as an alternative, if needed, to having Doyle or Miller lead the line. Oh baby. Oppo wouldn’t have a clue where to look. So much guile. A lot of it left sided, but hey ho.
