Bradford City Video Footage From The Mid 1970s

Great memories from my first season as a city fan. There was only 12000 at the Tooting game including me and my uncle Phil on the kop. Can see my old house behind the Bradford End☺ was living there when this was filmed

 

For those who remember (or something in the general vicinity of memory) how was the Southampton game? Obviously we lost , but was it quite an even game. Did they batter us & 1-0 flatter us or did we have our fair share of the game and chances?

 

Gerry Ingram missed a sitter, Controversial Southampton goal. Rowdy day out. Usual 70's stuff when a big club came to town.

 

I was 12years old walking down manningham lane after the game.
Pockets of trouble erupting all over, back in those days it wasn't throwing plastic chairs.
I was in between them all picking up all the coins falling out of their pockets.
Think my older sister dragged me away by my ear!
Made a few Bob that day haha

 

Carnage all day and the game we should have drawn maybe won...amazing atmosphere

 

Could have beaten Southampton that day. Their goal was an illegal move from a free kick and their keeper made an amazing save from a Rod Johnson effort. Our chairman at the time Bob Martin tripled the admission price which cut the gate to about 14,500 though he later tried to upgrade the gate to 16,000 after criticism from ex chairman Stafford Heginbotham on local radio saying that he disputed the gate figure.

 

As I recall it was pretty even. I was in the Midland Rd stand, right in line with that free kick. I remember being impressed with the cleverness, but annoyed that it was allowed to stand. Thought that the rules require a complete revolution of the ball before it could be struck, which obviously was not the case in this instance.

 

Cookie scored 2 goals against Port Vale at my first City game. It was a night game and I was in the Bradford End getting covered in falling rust every time the ball hit the roof of the stand.

Can't remember which year it was but we were playing Bournemouth at home. We were well on top and Don took the ball into the corner at the kop end towards the end of the game and there were no Bournemouth players anywhere near him so he just sat on the ball until someone got close!!
