I personally can’t see Udders recalling him or selling him. Let’s be honest here why would they? If he continues to improve then his price would go up, and they may want to keep him if they drop into the championship. We have agreed a season long loan, and I can’t see why they would recall.

Doesn’t his contract expire in the summer?

They'll sell him if anybody is interested in buying him in January since that's their last opportunity to make some money from him. His contract with Town expires next June and he then becomes a free agent.

Edit - Ignore that! I've just been informed that Town have an option to extend his contract by 12 months next summer. It was also confirmed that the 12 month loan agreement with us does include a recall option.

Town have problems sticking within the PL's 25 man squad limit and the view is that Payne will not return to the club in January because there's no place for him in the PL squad. He will either stay with us and be sold. It's just become more complex.

They have a year option they’ll just activate that and either keep him or sell him

Obviously not happy with being bottom of the league. However, that's what it has taken for Rupp to wake up and act, and bring in Rhodes and give Rahic the boot. But yes, I am definitely happier and more optimistic about the way the club will now be run, than I was a couple of months ago.

Like you, I am not convinced about Hopkin, but I am happy to stick with him this season, and see how he performs in the second half of the season. I don't think the uncertainty and upheaval another manager change brings, will help our cause to be honest, especially he now has his own assistant in, and January targets in mind

Well if they have had enquires then why wouldn’t they extend his contract and sell? Still can’t see it before the summer though.

For us it will depend on where we end up, I can’t see us being in for a player like Jack if we get relegated, if we manage to wriggle free of relegation then I can see us wanting to keep him. I love watching him, good creative player that can score.

Did anyone figure out why Town are desperate to sell, given they could be a Championship club and may have use for him, given that the money won't be massive, given his wages aren't crippling, and given Payne is playing?

    Did someone offer 10m?

They hardly used him when they were in the Championship and he is now playing for a bottom league 1 club.

He isn't a championship level player as yet and has 6 months left on his contract.

If a decent offer comes in then they will sell.

I think its an annoying mark of Huddersfield's progression. When they brought Payne in a couple of years ago, he would have fit right in there as a low end Championship / high end L1 player which is where Huddersfield were. Here we are now and Huddersfield are very much a low end Premier League / high end Championship club.

Payne is one of a final few players that are still on the coattails of that progression - the rest were gone in the summer and some of them we are familiar with i.e. Hiwula, Scannell. You just can't see a future for Payne there, especially after a period playing for L1's bottom club. We all know he could easily do well back at that high L1 / low end Championship level though.

If there is interest at a decent price then Huddersfield will probably sell. I'd like to think we are in a position to try and complete the move permanently but being where we are means others could easily step in ahead of us. Lewis O'Brien on the other hand, we could be in a good position with him with the promise of first team football.

I think if Wagner decides to leave they will be relegated easily from Prem. Got a very good manager at the min

Hopefully Saturday’s win will put Stefan in a better mood to provide the funds to sign Payne.

I don't think we can judge Hopkin until he's had the Jan window and see who he brings in (if he's allowed) and monitor the progress he makes over the second half of the season.

I wonder how much Udders would want for Jack Payne? If Stefan is willing to put some money in would he consider it?

Our defence is still the priority in my view so I reckon Jan window is going to be tricky and we should realise that and not be too down if we don't manage to get everyone we need.

If we stay up, I’d make Payne number one priority to sign. He is immense. His skill in the second half just reminded me of Robbie Blake

Agree that defence is the priority, but if we lose some or all of our loan players in Jan then everywhere else becomes a priority too. I do hope that now the players look to be enjoying playing together, it is an encouragement for them all to want to stay with us

As I posted last week hudders wanted £500k plus for Payne last summer no one came him and we managed to get him on a loan deal until end of season with recall option in jan. He only has 6 months left and he just wants to play regularly at his age now however Sunderland have been monitoring him on and off since we played them at VP.

Maybe a £250k plus a sell on would do the trick?
