    Has he, has he REALLY?

He's playing a reasonably attacking role yet produced very, very sparse results in terms attacking play. Bearing this in mind, how exactly have you reached your conclusion that he's been one of the "better performers"?

We have had him long enough and never really done anything. Need a winger who can beat his man and run at them sadly not Gillead

I reached this conclusion through watching him glide past opposition players in every match I’ve seen him play in this season.

If we are going to focus on statistics, have a look at Dmitry’s posted match reports and it will show you exactly how many times he has dribbled past his opponents and he is the only player who has done this consistently. We have not had another player capable of showing this skill week in, week out all season.

I have accepted that there are areas he needs to improve upon.

It's ok gliding passed defenders but that's not the problem,it's the end product that he's missing. He's now been at the club for 18 months and played under 2 managers and they've more than likely told him he needs to improve his crossing and shooting but nothing as changed. The coaches must have spent time with him trying to improve his end product so it's either he's not good or our coaches aren't good enough.

Bottom line, he has no end product, he’s just another example of the ‘not good enough’ standard of the current crop.

How many goals have arisen from him "gliding past a player"? I'd say Zero but feel free to help me remember. He's been here 18 months now and the sum total of his output is far less than a 20 year old with 20 less appearances and 3/4s of those at left back. Those type of statistics are simply damning.

Your evidence, or even opinion, is completely intangible. To put it into context, how many players did David Beckham "glide past"? Yet on his day and in the same position as Alex, he was one of the best in the world.

Is it because you’re apparently 118 years old that you continue to use this patronising tone?

Comparing a League 1 player with a former contender for the Ballon D’or doesn’t really work for me but I’ll use that same argument anyway. Dennis Bergkamp didn’t score many goals so that must mean he was a terrible striker. His stats just simply weren’t good enough I’m assuming?

I have already accepted that he needs to improve, but at the young age of 22, there is plenty of time for him to improve.

Not for me. The last 3 managers we have had all preferred to deploy the tactic of playing just 1 winger. If that is to continue next season, I’d rather we give that opportunity to Robinson or Gibson.

Gilly flattters to deceive most games and, as many keep pointing out, Wyke has been left with very little to work with as a result, which is a surprise as it was that combo that shone at Carlisle

But gliding past players is only any use if the end product is better. 1 decent cross per game is simply not productive enough. That’s like saying Matt Clarke (shudder) won every header, but if there was no direction on his clearances and he couldn’t tackle, would you still rate him?

If Gilliead can’t or won’t cross the ball, then is he a winger?

Nobody seems to doubt he has talent, holds the ball well and beats players through intelligence and movement, could he move inside and be a no. 10?

He himself said his best position is winger. Reminds me more of an Adam Reach type player than a Mark Marshall. Seems to run better with the ball from deep rather than one on one with a full back. Be interesting to see where he goes when Newcastle release him.

Dennis Bergkamp didn't score many goals? Are you sure?

According to wiki he scored 201 club career goals in 550 appearances which is very good at any level and also scored 37 international goals in 79 appearances which is excellent by any stretch.

Might not have an end product but gets the team up the pitch

That's alright then. How many points do we get for getting up the pitch?

1 goal and 1 assist tells the story.

So does hoofing it 70 yards but again, there's very rarely an end product.

I can’t see him as a winger - frustrating that we can’t seem to get the best out of him but like somebody said elsewhere, deja-vu with Billy Knott? We should just let this one go.

I would have to agree, hes had the chance to shine this season and hasn’t taken it. I also don’t think hes a winger, more a right side of a five man midfield. Best asset is his running with the ball fron a deep position. How you utilise that is anyones guess?
