The 120 minutes on Tuesday against the mighty Aldershot really took it out of the lads
We needed to rest a few players but the squads just not big enough and with our injuries etc etc etc

 

Oxford unbeaten in 9, with 7 clean sheets to boot. One of the games they conceeded was in a 3-3 draw at Scunthorpe after being 3-0 up.

That will not be an excuse as far as I am concerned. They are fit young men, playing twice a week? turn down training. Parky wouldn’t have that as an excuse. Try doing back to back 10 hour night shifts 10 nights in a row, on busy medical wards, 4 days off, then back on again!

The bad news is, the defence has done pretty well without him, and we're relying on tripe like Doyle to score.

Actually, scratch that, we're relying on O'Connor, NKP and Payne to score, since our strikeforce basically consists of detritus and sweepings.

 

Oxford to win 4-0 and the character to do the worm in front of the Kop. Can’t wait.

 

What hope has our defence and attack got? We couldn't keep a clean sheet in two games against non league opposition and in 210 minutes of football against the same opposition we scored the grand total of two goals. We may have turned the corner in terms of fitness and effort but christ this squad of players is poor and no amount of effort will change that.

 

The one thing not being taken into account here is the fact Oxford won't be parking the bus. Hmm, now is that a good thing or bad thing?!

 

In no way do I arbour a great deal of confidence in this fixture, however I'm far from despondent.
We have ( Aldershot apart) recently created a reasonable amount of decent chances.
The issue is whether we can convert them or not. (I was schooled at Oxford for stating the bleedin obvious)
I know Doyle and Co are about as potent as a Eunuch in a Brothel, however stranger things have happened.

 

You're right Jon. They had a bad start McMahon was away from home having lost his Dad I think in the summer and wife close to having a baby, so lots on his mind. Then Simon Eastwood got injured and missed several weeks but they are both back and the good run started. I understand T Mac cracked or even broke two ribs in the first Cup game with Forest Green but has told a friend of mine he is determined to play Saturday, wrapped in tape and dosed with pain killers, his Manager may have different ideas!

 

A similar performance to Portsmouth with a bit more luck and we can win this one
