Theoretically, is GA going anywhere?

We have experiences so called good football with Hughes and it was a borefest I would take GA's style of play anyday

 

I suppose being into my 7th decade of watching City, it can make you extremely negative
Too many lies and seasons of mediocre performances, bad ownership, crap football
It’s not easy following Bradford city, but it’s my hometown club and if you truly knew me one thing I am not is a glory hunter

 

I am in a similar situation to you but surely after enduring the many bad times it should make the good times such as we are enjoying at the moment that much better

 

Mark Hughes bored me just as much as Colin Todd yet both were very different styles.

 

I'm in my third decade and no doubt I've been as negative as anyone. My point is more you've criticised others for being negative in the past (only 2 years ago, not decades) when we were in a far worse position than this. If we count 1 period as 2 years, then in your 7 decades there can only been 5 or 6 periods that have actually been better than this supporting the club. So IMO, the negativity is OTT.

 

I suppose part of it is my dissatisfaction with football as a whole
My enjoyment has diminished with the passing years of more and more greed from the top and the realisation that unless we are bought out by some insane billionaire then progress is virtually impossible
Football as a whole has not improved, the rich have got richer
Yes we reached the promised land in the late 90’s
Can’t ever see us getting there again and the cost was too much, we own nothing
Add to this the complete abject failure of the national team to win anything, dispute the billions in our game
I suppose I am at the stage where I just want to be entertained and have accepted what we are

 

If Preston did make an approach now, compensation is agreed and he leaves, that's not walking out either. It's exactly the same as when he was a player where clubs made an approach, two clubs agree a fee and the player goes.

Personally I really like Alexander, he's done very well here and we seem to be on an upward trajectory. I'd be very disappointed if he were to leave, but fortunately I don't think he will.

 

If I was to be honest in all my years watching city the times where the football has hit my out of reach expectations were Terry Dolans team in 87 and Jewells promotion winning side in the championship. I'm under no illusion I will never see that prolonged quality of football again, no surprise that Stuart was pivotal to both teams.
Before anyone loses their shit it's an observation not a criticism of other managers.

 

I would add Trevor Cherry to that and possibly McFarland before him
Parkinson’s football brought us success, but there was a lot of dross in there as well
I do appreciate where GA has got us, but a little more football quality wouldn’t go amiss

I get where you are coming from, at times the long ball and the cross field diagonal does frustrate me at times.

 

People talk about GA’s playing style but it gets us results, the aspect of him leaving that is difficult to replace is that he’s respected by the players and with that he’s got their backing, they would run through brick walls for him and the team. This is why he is so difficult to replace, we have seen it before when changing managers and it impacts the way the club and the team have moved forward under his leadership. It has happened before and the last thing we want is performances to tail off under a new manager (if he does go) and end up back in the khazi league.

 

A lot of truth in what you've posted Andy, as you say when the Yanks start getting heavily involved you have to question why ?, bored to tears yesterday so I thought I'd take in the Manchester derby, what a train wreck that was.
We've seen enough derby games over the years and know they can be very average this was right up there with Calamity Jane (Oliver) and his VAR clowns getting expros baffled with the new laws.
Fodens reaction to Fernandes kick in his lower back is understandable but totaly stupid, but then for him to get shown a Red and Fernandez get off scot free was a joke, IMO both should have walked, then we see an offside goal given for a reason very few including ex pros could understand.

I don't have any names in mind. All I'm thinking is that we need to learn our lesson and appoint someone who plays a similar formation and style of play to GA so that we're not ripping things up and wasting 18 months by changing the squad.

I hope Sharpe and Sparks have a contingency list drawn up with the same criteria.

We finally stumbled upon success, but it wasn't a calculated move. We even went in for the Cowley brothers as our first choice, before picking up GA.

I get that Sparks is prepared to sign whichever coach has a reasonable record, but it has to be more than that to ensure some continuity - and that means actually paying attention to their coaching style and tactics. While GA himself will probably say it's not that important and clubs and players need to be adaptable, we can't take the risk on repeated 180's, changing our DNA every time someone leaves/doesn't work out.

The next appointment is always the most important one, and that's especially true when you're doing well.

If Ryan gets it wrong by employing a Hughes-ball type (or any other incompatible style) it could be a long, long time before we're top end of L1 again.

 

Challinor is the pick of the bunch, success at Hartlepool and Stockport and made the latter competetive in L1. Thats all we ask for - for now anyway!

If we had money then it would be Rob Edwards. L1 is beneathe him though, although im sure Leicester or Wednesday could entice.

 

We have a squad capable of playing a 433. We would only need to offload a couple of CBs, sign a RB if Neufville isnt up to it. And add another CM perhaps.
