When will Beesley bag one for City?

Humphrys can be a bit moody and his body language sometimes gives him the impression that he's sulking but this idea that he doesn't put in the hard yards and press defenders enough is a complete myth.

Chill out, lad has performed okay without scoring yet, hardly been the worst player on the pitch.

Yes, we want goals, no, getting annoyed won't make it happen. I want to see him play with Humps who played so well at Orient.

If you can guarantee the Humphrys who played at Orient then fine, I'll go with it but unfortunately that's proving to be once every 4 or 5 games and when he's "off it" the drop off is just way too steep which I suspect is why at every club he's been at he eventually finds a nice comfy spot on the bench after starting games when he first arrives.

It's almost as if there's no 6s and 7s out of 10 with SH. It's either an 8 or a 4 and unfortunately the 4s are far too frequent for him to be relied upon.

 

.... and scores goals, and creates goals, and holds up the ball, and wins free kicks to get the team up the pitch .....

But yeah, he just fouls people or summat.

 

Well I waited weeks to reply to this thread but I am going to put up what I think are the pros and cons of Beesley so far and to make it easy for those who are so negative about him I will start with the cons.

Without doubt he should have scored a couple of goals by now. He has missed some very good goalscoring chances Mansfield for example so I can understand why fans are worried on that front.

His first touch at times can be a bit off but let's remember Neufville and Metcalfe were similar at times last season and look how they turned out.


Now on to the pros for me

He runs himself into the ground and the opposition ragged for 70 minutes before usually being replaced by Powell who then comes up against tired defensive so as much as Powell looks a class above (which a fully fit a Powell would be) the work of Beesley beforehand shouldn't go unnoticed. Despite not scoring he is getting in the right portions which would be more of a worry if he wasn't.

He is also playing a different role to what he did at his previous clubs as he is literally a one man forward rather than having a sidekick at the side of him. ( Does anyone believe wells or mills for instance would have scored as many if it wasn't for Hanson and Blake). Beesley is playing a thankless tasks at times and for example watch when we have throw ins he will win probably 75% of flick ons yet very rarely do we have anyone in behind to chase the ball. Same happened with Cook and Humphrys last season might I add but that is one area that needs addressing by Alexander.

Beesley IMO is better at running the channels than most forwards we have had , he wins quite a lot of throw ins for instance when no one is around him and the ball has just been lumped football with no directions. I look back at the Mansfield game as one example where he and their defender had a right old battle but he never once back down.

Overall I am not disheartened with Beesley performances although a goal or two would have been nice for him but let's not forget he has assisted with a couple of goals this season so it isn't like he isn't contributing in front of goal either.

The problem with fans and especially ours is that they don't see the work rate of players but more of what they should be doing in their eyes ie a forward scoring goals nothing more a defender defending nothing more a GK making save nothing more.

It's what a player on the whole is contributing is what should be important not as an individual. If Beesley only scored say 5 goals all season and got say 5 assists but we won enough PTS to reach the play offs or automatics then he has done his job IMO as it's team effort.

Sarcevic and Pointon both scored more than our main forwards last season remember so let's not put the pressure of one man as the saviour.

Overall I think fans are being too critical of Beesley because he hasn't scored but for me he has been a steady 7/10 player thus far, a goal of two maybe he would have been 8/10.

Personally though I think he will hit double figures with ease and at the moment it's more frustration side of things for both him and the fans.

 

Yet still does what a striker is payed to do and that is score goals
Saw more in Humph in the Orient game than I have seen from Beesley all season
Beesley needs a strike partner someone to lay the ball off to and vice versa and until that happens he will continue to flounder
Be lucky to score 10 this season and that's simply not good enough

 

People need to chill out on him not scoring. I keep repeating myself but he's never scored loads and never will. He will give us 7-10 goals this season and run around a lot, thats what the club and Alexander knew they were buying. None of what he has showed so far is the least bit surprising. Good player, doesn't score much.

If the rumours going about that say we paid £300k/£400k for Beesley are correct, does anyone think that to date, we've got our moneys worth? Is he worth that sort of money?

 

So what was really expecting from a striker that has never been prolific??????
You think he was magically gonna start banging in 25 goals a season ????
He is not that type of forward and let's be right we are simply not that type of side that creates enough anyhow

Ask that at the end of the season. Getting promoted is worth around £12 million, even if he contributes slightly it’ll have been worth that and more. There’s some obsession about Beesley atm as though everything’s falling on him, if that’s the case then we are joint second and in the 4th round of the cup.

 

Fair comment Gaz, just going by what I've seen so far and to be honest I'm a tad disappointed. Of course I hope the lad comes good, was hoping for more quality.
We'll see!!!

 

For me, he's had a couple of below par performances and is in desperate need of a goal just to give him that confidence of getting off the mark.
Im certainly not in the camp of writing him off, and fully expect him to be starting again next week. As for his seasons goal output, for the player he is, I'd say double figures would represent par and 15 would be a success.
I can't agree with those who are championing Powell and Humphries as his direct replacement now. For all that I love about what Powell has brought to the team when he's come on, he simply doesn't have the fitness levels to do that from the off. As for Humphreys, as outstanding as he was midweek, it will take much more than 1 fired up display against a 2nd string Orient, to convince me that he is the long term answer. That said, if Beasley doesn't net soon, then Humphreys chance will come (probably after our next defeat), then it will be over to him to do enough consistently to keep the shirt.

 

Fans seem to have short memories. Before Tuesday it was pretty much all in agreeance that Humphrys flatters to deceive, even his own manager had given him an ultimatum. Then one good game against admittedly weakened opposition and selective memory loss comes into play.

 

The life of City fans no doubt the folk wanting him in from the start will pull his performances to bits after 1 or 2 games.

We are 6 games into a season we look solid we stand 3rd in a really tough league and yet it's not good enough

 

Call me old fashioned but I would expect a minimum 12-15 goals per season from a centre forward I add I think he will do that once he breaks his duck !!!
You have me wrong I do think there is a player in there just needs one to go in off the back of his head to get things rolling
We are doing well joint 2nd in the league and progressing in the cup so something is right my big concern is the lack of goals and should we go 1 down early doors we have a mountain to climb without a scoring striker
