Our best back three

Despite one or two on here saying we ‘leaked goals’ after the Cambridge paddy, we find ourselves with 5 clean sheets in 7 games. Our defensive options are looking good this season, I don’t mind a bit of rotation as long as it’s not excessive. I’d play the same back line as Saturday for the next league game, but change a couple tomorrow. I think Penno has been our best player so far this season so rest him for Saturday.

 

I think for now it's Pennington Baldwin Gillesphey. Want to see a bit more from Pratt.

I'd like to see Pratt and Williams soon maybe in the trophy and see if either can do the middle CB job. Dont really like Baldwin when he plays central, don't feel like he marshalls the backline overly well and also seems to struggle against a target man. Feels like in Pennington, Baldwin, Welch & Gillesphey we have 4 wider CBs, Pratt probably another and no natural middle CB now Wright has gone.

Who's williams have I missed a transfer? Agree on everything though. Pratt played well on Saturday but our best back three is Baldwin Pennington and gillesphey like you said.

 

I think Gillesphey was rightly dropped against Mansfield and I haven't been overly impressed with him so far. Maybe being dropped will give him the kick up the arse that makes him think he's not an automatic choice. Pratt did well as did Welch, but I doubt Alexander will see them as regular starters for a while. He's doesn't seem to like playing youngsters and prefers experience which is understandable to a point.

 

The lad we loaned from Pompey? I think he was called Williams? He's 6'5ft i think the article said and meant to be a physical CB who isnt bad on the ball either, sure it said they paid £1.5m for him.

Personally I think it's currently Baldwin / Pennington / Pratt, but overall I'm pretty happy with the squad depth there despite having not seen Matthews. We've also got Touray and Connolly who can slot in there too if necessary.

One thing I'd prefer to see is Baldwin on the right and Pennington in the centre. I think Baldwin is more mobile but Pennington reads the game better and makes them better suited that way around. It worries me when I see Baldwin in the centre, he can have the occasional mishap and the central role feels like our last line of defence.

 

As long as Baldwin isn't in the middle they all seem pretty much of a muchness and all capable of good performances while chucking in the odd stinker.

 

I don’t know who our best 3 are but I know it definitely doesn’t include Mathews.

 

Welsh and Gillesphey should be reserves right now I think. So Pratt, Baldwin, Pennington my best three for now.

If Welch is comfortable on the left, I'd go with Pennington, Baldwin, Welch

Depends on the opposition but if we are going on what we have seen so far.

Baldwin ain't losing his central spot to anyone
Pratt looks the better option on the left if Saturdays game was anything to go by but he does need to learn he can head a ball.
Pennington looks like a different player this season and it's his place to lose on the right.
