When will Beesley bag one for City?

He either needs someone whose gonna hover around him when are banging long balls up top or wingers/ widened who are gonna throw crosses in ................to me it just reeks of a Vadaine Oliver signing where we have players around him that are more technical rather than used to playing a long ball game ..............if we are to play more of a long ball game then to me we have wasted money on signings that ain't gonna fit the way we play

 

Bang on bud I would get it if we didn't create nothing but the last 2 games could have resulted in 6 goals easily

 

In five games in all competitions we haven't conceded if we don't concede many we don't need to be prolific going forward

 

But then never looking like scoring doesn't get you through the playoffs as we found last season.

The kind of skill Sarce has is given by the gods ie your born with it. Anticipation of when and where to move, it is instinct. GA has many skills but I do think he has a tendency to over coach. That can dampen down a player’s ability to use his skills. Just my thoughts of course.

 

I’ve just listened to the GA interview with Radio Leeds where he’s asked for trust, which is right because he’s earned it. What stood out though was him telling players like Sarce and Metcalfe last season, not to run all over the pitch and to trust other players. No wonder we don’t see players taking risks if they’re told to stay in their box and don’t venture out. It’s no surprise when we see opposition midfielders popping up all across the pitch wanting the ball, and ours are told to stay in a certain area. Surely we can train to cover each other if one makes a run.

 

I never said it wasn't. Alexander has done a fine job getting us where we are, we play to a style that suits both the managers own pragmatism and our limited budget. But he's gonna have to solve that lack of goals in the for column as it will stop us progressing forward.

 

But we conceded 2 goals in each of the games we have lost in that period and missed chance after chance to score when on top means prolificity is required.

 

Of course we need more goals from the many chances we make. But if we don’t concede we are guaranteed at least a point

 

The trust is about trusting other players to do their job rather than thinking you have to do everything. Like he says there's no point Sarcevic making runs in behind wide as he won't get goals from there and we will already have a wing back and no 10 out there so he just gets in the way whilst leaving the middle empty. If he makes them runs into the area he's going to get a lot more chances from all the crosses we get into the box

BTW the last 2 and half seasons have hardly reeked of mediocrity have they rather been jolly good on the whole or you not enjoyed it

 

Thise crosses are few and far between and the quality quite poor hitting the first man in the chest or landing way past the back post so his chances are limited. Better service into the box would help.

 

Just heard an interesting comment from Martina Navratilova about how she lost a final because she was thinking about the game plan rather than playing the game in front of her. Maybe City players have the same problem. Thinking and sticking to their part in the game plan rather than seize a potential opportunity in front of them.

 

That's not the point he made, though. He said that Sacre was going out there and playing little triangles, so basically going to assist those out there to help them rather than trusting them to do their jobs. He's not talking about if a ball goes out wide and he's chasing it to just stop and stay in the middle. If he gets dragged out wide because of his run or where the ball has been played then naturally someone will need to fill in the gaps. Phillips did it a number of times in the first half, to the point I thought him and Sarce had swapped positions a few times during the half.

 

Have yet to see Beesley take the ball to feet,turn and run at defenders which is basic for a striker. Even second div forwards like Cook took defenders on and scored or csused panic in defences

 

Agree here. In the second halves vs Wednesday and Cambridge, I noticed Sarce getting high up with the attack in more of a central 10 position when we attacked. Problem here is leaving the hole behind him, but I think Connolly is very good defensively so I feel fine.

I really do think Sarce can still attack and chip in with goals in his new role, and that if/when Phillips starts to get involvements we will look very strong in the attack.

Like others have said, xG proves we’re creating decent chances, and there’s some sort of positive in that Beesley is in place to get these chances in the first place. Humphrys, for example, would not have got himself the opportunity to miss those chances in the first place.

If the attack gels in the goalscoring department (mainly Bees+Phillips), which I think it will, we’ll be more than fine in my opinion.
