What a game. Excitement throughout and so good to shut up the Wednesday supporting Sky commentary team. Why can't they have one ex player from each club? Biased throughout and too loud !!!

It would have taken Andy Kiwomya to balance that one out. You could count on 1 hand the amount of times we were mentioned.

 

As I was mentioning to @Bronco the other day this lad has a lot to his game, he's not just someone who runs around a lot. Fits Alexanders style of centre forward.

If I've totted everything up correctly, then as far as the League goes, this is the 17th time we've started 2-0-0 (1911, 1920, 1922, 1930, 1932, 1947, 1956, 1970, 1978, 1979, 1982, 1987, 1994, 2001, 2008, 2017, 2026), and the 4th time we've done that without conceding (1947, 1987, 2001, 2026).

Four times we've then gone on to 3-0-0 (1920, 1947, 2001, 2008), and once each on to 4-0-0 (1979) and 5-0-0 (1932).

Nathan (in Petrov's post above) has got it spot on. If you add in the cups (League, Minor) that start early in a season, then in 1994 we did go 5-0-0, but conceded a goal already in our opening match, in 2001 we went 4-0-0, but conceded a goal in our 3rd match (League Cup against Macclesfield), in 2008 we actually lost our second competitive match (in the League Cup), and in 2017 we did the same.

I mentioned it straight away on here, thought there'd be a bit of feedback and when there wasn't I thought perhaps it wasn't as good as I thought it was?

 

Pretty simple really.
At home we play as a unit 20 yards higher up the pitch and are closer together through greater flexibility which suits Bobby cos he's slow.
Away we are very rigid and sit deeper relying on players with pace getting in behind to stretch home defences.
It was like that all last season as well.

 

The usual biased commentary from Sky for the Wednesday love in, but what a second half performance from our boys.

 

Wont come up against many better CM pairings than Mitchell and Bannon - Slattery looks a handful too. Struggled at times in the first half but second half they were anonymous.

Looks like the Sarc/Connolly partnership has passed the test. 'Wait until we play a decent side - it was only Rochdale and Posh yeh?'

 

Its almost like Sky were wanting a big story to unfold. First game back at Hillsborough under the new ownership and Sky are there to showcase a momentus home win.

Reality is nobody outside of the blue part of Sheffield would GAF anyway! Christ it was tedious!

 

Fully agreee, i bet the red part of Sheffield got a reet laugh last night.

 

Managers pretty much always stick to their tried and tested philosophy and Alexander is an advocate of this. Difference now is we have Beesley and a fit Powell to run the line and get down the channels, we didn't have that last season. We haven't done anything different to what we did last season, Alexander in interview alludes in the post match interview that we were wasteful with the ball and didn't press like he wants. Second half we just shut down Bannon with the press and their defensive frailties were exposed, every league one side has those frailties.

 

Noticeable that both teams were playing in their traditional colours with full striped shirts, @Offcomedun will have been over the moon lol.
