Summer 26 Transfer Rumours

Doesn’t seem 2 minutes since people were saying we’ve had a great summer window. Maybe a quiet period is unduly worrying people.

 

We had a good start on paper with Beesley and Phillips coming in pretty quickly. The other signings also look decent additions however we are definitely 3 possibly 4/5 still short. That said I will judge the window on being a success or not once it closes.

 

Yep, but we haven't signed anyone for a couple of weeks so the season is over...

Seriously though, let's wait and see. I can remember many moons ago a certain season where we seemed to be struggling to get a striker, and in the end were forced to buy some bloke from Port Vale for a million brick, which drew quite a lot criticism because everyone thought Mills was shit...

 

Bang on the money.

CM is such a gamble, with Connolly who hasn't played DM properly for 9 years and Cartwright who has only 14 senior starts on his CV, just 2 complete 90 minutes to his name and just 8 games in his pro career so far where he's played over an hour. Expecting that midfield to tick without a proper stand in for both is just doomed. Cartwright is going to need a lot of time as he's still finding his feet in the mens game, Connolly too is going to need some time to get back to grips of things.

 

That’s a reference point from over 20 years ago. I have a reference point of 6 months ago when we needed quality and we got that shambles of a window.

 

It is, but it still doesn't mean it's too late to get signings that will make a difference. If we get to the end of this window without one, then we can start to be concerned, assuming of course the existing squad doesn't gel which it still might.

 

I think the delay in the loan market is down to the World Cup. I’d expect things to hot up fairly quickly now.

 

We have added goals and assists in the form of Beesley and Phillips we have added experience and ability in the back three and this season we have serious competition for goalkeeper. I think Connolly will be a sound signing as well. Cartwright is a question mark just as Metcalfe was last season. We do need a box to box midfielder so we will have to wait to see what transpires but we have a decent squad with the majority of the players who did so well last season. Is your negativity endless

 

I feel what we saw at the start of the window was a bit of a rush of movement as some players had committed to moving so those deals were done quickly. Everyone is now stuck because PL teams are only just returning and Championship teams want players to release their players to L1 and L2 and financial regulations have changed so there is likely to be a domino effect happening quite quickly at some point I feel. Fingers crossed we're well positioned with the players we want to bring in to convince them to come when they are made available.

Dont worry, we will come back to statements like that by the end of September when half the fan base is calling Beesley a donkey and we have nobody who can come on and change a game with 20 mins to go
