Not seen any of them whilst on trial, but the list hardly inspires does it.

Heneghan has had injury problems and been relegated from this league on three occasions.

Welch has hardly played any first team football anywhere

James relegated last season from this league

Lewis is probably the likeliest as can cover full back and midfield, GA does like his versatile players. Tellingly though has just been released by Mansfield, did they deem him not good enough for league 1 now?

 

Wouldn’t necessarily write them off though, Nahki Wells was deemed not good enough for Carlisle and Wayne Jacob’s was released by Hull City as he was injured too many times and he became our most consistent left back.

 

Not writing any of them off as I havent seen any of them whilst with us. Trialists lists never really inspire due to the nature of the tag 'trialist' i.e. released by a club and not exactly in demand by other clubs.

Wells only played 3 times for Carlisle, not exactly a seasoned pro like 3 of our trialists. Didnt realise Jacobs was a trialist, so give you that one.

I think the 5th 'trialist' Powell will get a deal though!

I think it depends whether GA has any other targets in mind too, such as potential loan signings, that he thinks might have a chance with and hold out for them.

 

Don’t forget we got Cook from Mansfield because Clough didn’t fancy him, and he didn’t turn out too bad.

Easy to pick out the extremes of successful trialists when in reality they are on trial generally as no one has shown interest in them. Not saying for certain they won't make it but the clue is in the word trialist The ones on trial do seem to have some experience at this level so could fill a squad role I guess.

 

Sounds like Donny have already got Molyneux's replacement lined up before he's even left the building. Jordan Thomas from Cheltenham strongly rumoured to be joining them.

 

If they are on trial it means obviously that they are without a club and their are some decent players on that list like Sam Morsy

 

Decent and actually being wanted two entirely different things. 99% of decent players don't end up on trial, I suspect what Morsy thinks he's worth now and what clubs valuation of him is somewhat different.

 

There's rumours us and I think Peterborough have both shown interest but he's asking for more than either are willing to pay.

 

See who blinks first. He'd be an asset to both teams, never know might be waiting for Salford to jump and throw more money around. Would probably fit into Alexander's defensive style midfield.

Ahah coming from you. Last year showed what team spirit and togetherness can do. Having players on much more money than others can upset that.

 

The fact that you've had go all the way back to 2013 and 1994 to find two examples to be positive about our trialists probably tells it's own story about the potential chances of success.

 

It's the 'Gsry Jones was successful when we signed him at 35 so every player should be' scenario. There are the odd one that bucks the trend but if you're at the trialist stage of you're career you should be thinking about a possible carrer change.

 

They weren’t trialists, just turned out to be bad signings and we’ve had plenty of them on big wages as well.
