Only really Swan, Pennington and Lapslie who weren't regulars last season who are still on the books. Got to be wing back depth and midfield depth?

Davies seemed to struggle in L2 for Wrexham, Grimsby and Fleetwood, the last time he was a proper first team player was the 21/22 season in the National League. I'd be surprised if he is given a role here. Maybe the Lee Evans role from last season of filling the squad with random 10/15 min cameos thrown his way?

Surprised by some of the lads we are giving trials to. Yes, its a trial, not a contract, but you only play so many friendlies and trial so many. If lads haven’t been regulars in L2 are they really gonna be good enough for us?

Its a different situation to Melcalfe, who was smashing it on loan at Chesterfield and fared well on several data measures I believe.

He's a league two plodder at best. Good luck to the lad but we are past that level now.

Yeah i dont really get this one, tbf many of the trialists. Looking at the free agent DM/CM market, it is very slim pickings. Outside of going for an experienced head like Morsy or Luongo, there is very little left of quality. Feels like a PL/CH loanee slot to me?

I still think we should go for an older head in the middle - Luongo or Morsy would fit that perfectly. I think we'll miss that kind of leadership in the middle.

Think it’s clear the well is dry budget wise as what’s the point having these lower league plodders on trial. Makes no sense whatsoever. This will be our downfall we need 3 signings on par if not better than what’s already come through the door, RWB needs proper competition and Josh faded big style post November. Midfield well it’s obvious and Bobby like it or not gets injuries quite a bit we need another left forward. Humps it won’t be. If we are seriously saying it’s 2 players relegated from our league this year, 22 year old who hasn’t played men’s football since 24 and lad who is a sick note playing for mid table league 2 teams are the best we can attract with what we have left then we must be paying astronomical amounts for those brought in.

I think trialists are here to make up numbers in pre season games and put themselves in the shop window for other clubs. Thats the way I see it. Personally, I would rather make up the numbers with youth team players.

Who was the last trialist we signed on, I honestly cant remember.

Nick Powell? I suppose technically he was on trial whilst still a Stockport player, wasn't he training with us for a few weeks and played in a behind closed doors game or two? I think Huntington and Evans trained with us for a bit too before signing in the promotion season.

That looks about it in the post-Rahic days, under Rahic we had a fair few young lads on trial who signed deals but didn't bring many memories, Luca Colville was one. Lachlan Barr, Joel Grodowski & Lukas Raeder all came in from Germany after trials in summer 2017.

Looks like Leicester are going to ship on Harry Winks 20-odd grand a week salary, he is in Cagliari having a medical. They sold a lad to Man City for a few million last week too and it sounds like a few more are on the verge of leaving. Should have a fairly big budget to spend for this level.

I know Parky liked a trialist but that was needs must right as we were skint but I thought those days were gone. I don’t like it never have done and there is good reason these lads are on trial as no other clubs are clearly convinced. Let them go get fit somewhere else, we ain’t a charity. I know majority won’t sign but what a waste of everyone’s time at the club. 1 or 2 get it but 4 with more to come that’s desperate.

I think people are making to much a big thing of this yes we need a couple and we are going to get them wherever they come from I trust GA and co to make the right decision.
But we have strengthened up front with Beesley and with Jackson swan and Humphrey we have plenty of options. We have Phillips. In midfield Sarcevic will probably drop deeper and hopefully Pointon will stay fit and we have a good signing in Connolly and hopefully Cartwright. We have strengthened left side of defence and we have good competition at right wingback and this year we have good competition for goalkeepers.
So there is zero reason to panic they are right to take their time

I'm going to trust GA's approach based on the last couple of seasons.

I'm guessing that the players we are after are either under contract elsewhere or a trial period isn't workable. Having experienced players, where we have gaps now, probably makes some of the training more meaningful.

Nixon has said that a lot of CH and L1 clubs will going to Man Citys academy stadium tomorrow, there is going to be a "shop window" game with around 25 U21/U18 lads playing infront of scouts to try and see if any loan moves are possible. Wonder if we are sending anyone to see if there are any wing back or DMs available?

There's a rumour that Jordan Davies has been told he wont get a deal too, he's just training until someone comes in for him. His agent has been trying to create a narrative that we were offering him a deal to push along other clubs in touch with the agent.

But how many times have you said we arent competeive and will struggle to compete? You said it all last summer and guess what....

Weve made 6 signings do far and im not arguing against any of them. Majority better than those that have left - albeit question mark over Cartwright replacing Metcalfe, plus we still need 1 more in the middle to negate the Power loss.

Where is the "good competition at right wing back"?

I'm away at the moment but haven't seen any reports of us bringing anyone else in?

We are only re investing the Metcalfe money on proven players. Not arguing with that strategy, but it would’ve been back to the dross of January if we didn’t have a saleable asset. Clear that money been spent on Beasley and Philips, remaining players mark my words will not be of the calibre, experience or quality of them.

That makes sense. I'm sure the initial tweet O'Rourke put out about it was just copied and pasted text from Davie's agent because there's no way O'Rourke would have put Bradford Park.
