GA's whole argument about playing him as a striker was based on the fact he didn't think he was capable of putting in the hard yards on the left. That's either because he's lazy, unfit or both.

He listed Connolly as cd which at least for us he isnt

 

Open your eyes and watch him. At times he's absolutely bone idle. The 2nd leg of the Bolton play off game was just the latest in a long line of performances where he simply couldn't be arsed.

 

I didn't realise Archie Collins had been released by Peterborough it seems Sheffield wed and our neighbours are interested in him. Definitely one I wouldn't mind at city being a defensive midfield with over 300 games half of which are in L1

Can't be Connelly as he's only started 64 games in the championship in midfiled

 

But they were both centre midfielders. Connolly we don't know how that one will go as he's been in and out of defence and midfield. Also had a bad injury last season. Cartwright may take some time to get going. I know Bailey is probably out of our reach, but this is the sort of signing that we need to make to get us to the next level, or in a similar position to last year.

 

Power .had been almost banished abroad and hardly played and Metcalfe was in league two. I have no worries about Connolly providing he stays fit. Not sure about Cartwright we will have to see but cover and competition for those positions are vital and the same for rwb then we are looking good

 

Trialists rarely do as the decent out of contract players would be already in talks with a club or two.

I hate the idea of trialists, always have. Its like the recruitment team have run out of ideas or the club is looking at very cheap squad fillers.

 

I wouldn’t worry about it they are very unlikely to sign unless they thoroughly impress. I think they are around mostly to fill the squad while the loan market becomes more active

 

Metcalfe barely played at the start of the season. Tommy Leigh played CM until he had a fall out with GA.

 

The best trialist we ever had was Wayne Jacob’s in 1994, ended up seeing off many more expensive signings like Lee Todd and Andy Myers and always won his place back.

 

Think Nahki Wells was a trialist too wasn't he? Good ones are rare, but they do exist.

Last time we were in L1, we had a fair few trialist every summer but i think a fair few were random names from Germany? I remember going to a friendly at VP and there were a fair few unknown random europeans dotted about the squad.
