He has got all of preseason with a host of friendlies and a league cup game to assess any weaknesses and even after the season starts. I still think we need cover or competition in central midfield and rwb.

As it stands, the defence looks stronger with the upgrade on Tilt with Gillesphey. I would still like to see another centre back and RWB option though.

The attacking options have been strengthened with the addition of Beesley.

Attacking midfield options strengthened further with the option of Phillips in an area I think we were already strong.

The central midfield looks weaker in my opinion. We 100% need to further strengthen there without doubt.

I wonder if George has played himself into being a serious option at CM.

If I am correct, then our senior outfield players, who will be considered in the ‘capped’ number at 22, include the following
    LWB - T.Wright
    LCB -Gillesphey, Touray
    CB - Baldwin, J.Wright
    RCB - Connolly, Pennington
    RWB - Neufville
    CM - Phillips, Cartwright
    LAM - Pointon, Humphrys
    RAM - Sarcevic, Jackson, Lapslie
    ST - Beesley, Swan

So by my reckoning we have 5 slots available. Powell may well be pencilled in for one of them. If he gets a contract, I am not sure what position he would now operate in, given his spells of injury and his age. That would mean 18 included in the current senior squad.
In my view we need an additional Right Wing Back, a Central Midfielder (defensive anchor role) and depending on whether Jackson/Powell are used as a forward, then possibly another striker.

I agree with @Bigrod@Bigrod I'd like to see a RWB, CM and ST. I don't think Swan offers much compared to the others so the ST could be a swap for him. We need someone of the same profile as Beesley.

If we could offload Humphrys then that would also free up a chunk of wages, if he is indeed one of the higher earners. Assuming he is, it would be waste to have so much of the budget sitting on the bench...

I think at least one of Humphrys, Lapslie or Swan will be gone by the end of the summer window.

With Phillips more of an AM than a CM, I’d still expect us to bring in, at a minimum, a CM, a CB and a wing back.

Powell is an interesting one. There’s clearly a talented player in there, but he’s nowhere near available enough for a squad that’s looking to improve on last season’s 4th place finish.

    Personally, I’d be looking elsewhere.

Connolly has been signed as a DM and Phillips is not really a central midfielder I think Sarcevic will be redeployed there

Totally agree with all of this. As per the CM issue, going into the season with Connolly & Cartwright is asking for trouble. We need a marquee signing in that CM spot, as I don't believe either Connolly or Cartwright (at the moment) replace Jenson or Power as dominant players.

Sarcevic isn't a CM so Bigrod's listing would be accurate with him at RAM

I wonder when he said that to Parker because he apparently said 2/3 more at the podcast recording last night.

Sarcevic wont last until October if he played midfield the way GA expects it to be played

I would be amazed if he thinks he only needs 1 more addition to the squad

Me too. Part of me did wonder if he said only one because there are already a couple of deals done but not announced yet, but I guess that would be incredibly difficult to keep under wraps now the players are back training every day.

I am more than happy for Swan and Lapslie to be back up, squad players. Not sure we are going to get better, from what I assume are their wages. They know the club and systems played.
Humphry’s is a bit of an enigma. Not sure he is a striker. If he gets the ball, he often seems to hold onto it, for far too long, often being caught in possession. I wonder about his ‘assist’ rate, but anticipate it is average at the very best. He doesn’t seem to track back as much as others. Although he has had a number of shots, and commendably on target, his return is poor. He is strong on the ball, has some tricks and turns, and a bit of pace. To be honest having read about his finish at Barnsley to the season in 2025, and having seen him in the 2025 pre season, I expected far more. I would certainly accept a bid for him.

I don't see how some folk have a problem with Humphrys. Play him on the left of the front three, he can compete with Pointon. Brilliant position to be in to have two really strong left sided players who can impact the game with one coming on as a sub when defenders are tired.

I wish we had the same strength in depth with the wing backs - if we did then we could be right up at the top of the table.

Am I missing something?.if he didnt work hard enough, do you really think GA would keep selecting him?

My issue with him is he tries to do too much sometimes and try and beat too many players before releasing the ball.

He's obviously not lazy with the ball. When people point out that he's bone idle is because without the ball he's completely uninterested.

It's like he's playing in the school playground at times and he's only going to bother moving if someone passes him the ball and then only moving until he invariably loses it again.

Sometimes tries to beat players that aren't even there!
Wish he'd keep it more simple.

Again, GA demands even more hard graft without the ball, so dont get this perception some fans think he is lazy.

Hes a good player to have in the squad, whether covering Pointon or probably now Beesley.
