    As I said a few weeks ago whatever is said from the club regarding transfers take with a pinch of salt as we saw last summer and especially in Jan we weren't going to bring in many new players then all of sudden 1/3 of the squad had changed.

    I fully expect 3 maybe 4 more incomings before we kick off the season.

    We have to operate within a salary framework, so not all players in the squad will be on the ‘top rate’.
    We can register 22 ‘senior’ outfield players + some youth players and potential Under 21 loan players. It is impossible for all of the squad to play 40+ matches a season.
    How many top quality players are going to be prepared to be in a squad with not much game time, apart from those in the twilight of their careers or permanently injured?
    My view on Lapslie is that he works hard when he gets the opportunity and there is no information to suggest he is a ‘disruptive’ influence in the changing room. From a distance, he seems like a good guy!
    He plays with energy and has been/ is a good squad player.
    Sometimes you have to accept, that you cannot have a 22 man squad, totally filled with ‘top quality’, high earning players.

    We need another left footed defender.

    At present we have three players for two positions- Gillesphey, Touray, Wright. We need another one for LCB or LWB.

    Touray is equally efficient at both wing back and left sided centre back. But yes in an ideal world yes

    There isn’t one player in the squad that can’t be improved on. But we operate within financial barriers and some players don’t want to spend a season sitting around

    Correct but we lack CMs.

    I see Lapslie as a 4th choice RAM and just an option at CM which for me requires four accomplished CMs.

    i just dont see where he fits in and I would get him off the wage bill (if there is interest) and bring in a marquee CM and then a loan - we need 4 CMs IMO.

    I think Powell will likely be used more as a CM next season. Wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up with a 5-3-2 formation instead of two 10s

    Didn’t Gent say something along the lines of you will be surprised at the quality of an incoming signing shortly. Surely that can’t be Cartwright or the Charlton lad. The way it was quoted is that it would be a big name/surprise signing we would know. I wonder if this is still ongoing?

    One of the three gets injured and we have no options for two positions. Not a good place to be. Unless Neufville move to LWB but then we have no one to play there so we are still short of players.

    Mainly played CM and AM in his career, had a couple of injuries last season so suspect neither side is particularly thinking it will end in him signing and it's more of a convenience trial, he gets some minutes to hopefully get himself in the shop window whilst staying fit and we get someone to cover the CM position we need for today to be able to play a 2 teams.

    Agreed. I guess during preseason GA will be taking a look at Oscar Lunn, maybe involve a trialist or 2 and then probably land on a loan to give us options when the season gets underway.
