WTF has happened to him since going north of the border? Seemed pretty average at best for various L1/L2 clubs in England, goes to the SPL and they want that much for him. Is it THAT rough a standard in the SPL these days that Watt types stand out?

 

He was always a good player. Admittedly he played in some terrible sides here and he made a silly decision going to Salford but I'm not surprised he's kicked on eventually.

 

I didn't realise he has had 4 clubs since leaving us in 2022, doesn't seem to be sticking around too much these days. Tidy player, he was in naff teams but it felt like his main thing for a lot of his time here and from memory seeing him at Salford against us, was to pick it up deep, look up, and either hit a long pass into the 7th row of the stand or play it safe and shuffle the ball to a full back. Seemed to me that he wanted time on the ball but he got sod all in L2 here.

He's added goals to his game in Scotland, 6 goals and 3 assists in 34 apps in the SPL last season. If Motherwell get a decent 7 figure fee in, that's a good return in a years span from a freebie.

 

I’ve watched him play twice last season , he still turns like an oil tanker, left yards behind very quickly when out tackled in midfield his distribution remains as it was… always good but L1 at best . ‘ Well trying to cash in ?

Brilliant where when he aged for us but that was in league 2 Barnsley have ruined him since he went back. He had a cracking game against us at VP last season though. Wouldn't mind him as backup but we can do better for starters.

 

He did a job for us but was in the side that almost threw away promotion… 2 wins the last 9 games or whatever it was, conceding left, right and centre at the likes of Swindon and Chesterfield. Would prefer someone with higher league experience.

 

I put that down to an inadequate cover at CDM and Smallwood choosing to fly into a reckless challenge needlessly against Swindon, but I agree with your point. We should be targeting a more experienced player for that LCB slot

 

We’d have won the league at a canter if not for Smallwood’s red when battering Swindon. Shepherd was good for us. That said there are younger and better out there, we’re shopping in a better pool these days.
