I thought our defence did remarkably well last season to say I don't think any of them are elite at this level.

He did alright but the stats show that he wasn't the best and most consistent defender all season. In terms of defensive contributions per game, he was third behind Wright and Tilt and as for being the only one who can hit a pass, he had an average 4.9% success rate per game of hitting an accurate long pass. For comparison, Lee Evans success rate was 5.9% in the games he played, and everyone thought he was gash.

 

From local reportd it looks like Shef Weds are no longer after Bailey, confirmed they were interested but have moved on to other targets.
Donny must be asking a fair bit for him.

 

Tbf @NorthernMonkey I thought Baldwin was by far our most consistent defender this season.Touray and Tilt were good even probably better in spells but playing well more consistently Baldwin was head and shoulders above both IMO.

 

Pretty pleased that the two rumours I posted were correct. Well, i wasn't pleased Metcalfe was.... but you get what I mean

 

Feels like they are looking for a statement signing but being careful with their money (or being priced out)

I wonder if Bailey at Donny will move late in the window when his price drops a bit? Can't be easy to focus if the reports of all these clubs wanting him are true. His agent will be in his ear.

 

I am a fan of Baldwin, but I thought Touray was our most consistent defender last season.

Baldwin is the only defender who was here from our promotion team. I don’t believe he has ever lost his place because of form only from injury and that stupid sending off. When looking at planning for the coming season Baldwin was one of the last that needed changing

 

For me Baldwin is better Central than at RCB his awareness is extremely good and some of the full blooded tackles he does not one other defender does likewise that's why for me he is our most consistent defender. You then add in his range of passing which is an added bonus. I will say if he had a bit more pace he could easily be a championship defender.

Now can we improve on him absolutely as we could with every member of the squad however he would be the last defender I personally would replace.

 

At some stage they will have to make a decision . A player “ touted” around is , as proven time after time, an unsettled player . Notice they haven’t said he’s not for sale ? . Every player has a price, the market “ finds” it.

 

Baldwin was part of a defence that did pretty well
It was our attacking that was an issue
Peterborough at home showed that, 30+ attempts on goal and only scored 2 and we hardly laid a glove on Bolton in the 2 playoff games.
Improve in this department and keep it equally as tight at the back and we will be ok
If we can also bring in a defender or 2 that improves that side as well, great.
Phillips and Beesley look like we are going to improve the scoring rate
What’s not to like

 

It will surely have an unsettling effect on him
I don’t see him as a championship player to be honest
Top league one yes, so that limits his suitors
Especially if the figure being quoted is correct

 

I suppose like with every player does he want to move to a new club if he does then that can affect the asking price, if he isn't asking to move then Donny can ask for whatever they want hoping someone is daft enough to pay over the odds.
