All fair points Kev, but it doesn’t address the here and now. As things stand today, Bailey is the better player. Potential is great, but how many players actually reach their potential?

What they mean is that watching him week in week out they feel that it's been a real weakness and they've been caught out plenty of times with his short passing too. That's from 4 guys who go home and away

He was rough to watch the last few weeks maybe months”. Really? Yes, he had 2-3 games where his form dropped, but going back months?

Sorry, but I simply can’t agree with that. And, to be fair, all players have a drop off in form. J.Wright was dropped because he looked poor & recalled when Pennington had a similar spell. Baldwin was the most consistent, but even he looked average at times

I suppose that's the point though Jan. Millwall clearly didn't think Bailey is at the required level so I'm assuming they currently think similar of Metcalfe but he was someone they believe they can develop.

What makes him the better player? Because his G/A column was higher? If that’s the logic then we may as well scrap clubs spending millions on scouting networks and data analytics, just check who has higher goals and assists and go with them. There’s far more to playing in a midfield than that, that’s why Metcalfe was picked up by a championship club for 7 figures and why Bailey will still be in league 1 next season and Donny won’t be getting the price they want. It’s about more than potential.

All the reviews are very mixed. Had one of the better save rates but also let in a fair few. Seems he has a clanger in him and has poor distribution from the comments I can see.
Not the finished article but at 25 no where near his peak.

You’re the one comparing his goals/assists, not me. Bailey was stand out for Donnie last season in their midfield. Our own fans have been critical of Metcalfe, particularly towards the back and of the season.

Is there someone on here that can compare their respective stats (ave per game), i.e. most tackles, most interceptions, most clearances, most dribbles, most chances created etc? Whenever I’ve seen Bailey, he’s always excelled…. and I’m not just referring to his goals/assists record :p

Elder doesn’t appear to have played at LCB at all last season, switching between LWB and LB throughout his 30 games for Derby.

If he does indeed sign I believe it will be for LWB and to free Touray up for LCB.

There are two things for Tilt that stand out for me he has a physical presence and is probably the quickest in our defenders but overall to what he brings to the team Baldwin and J Wright are better out and out defenders. I think Tilt can still do a job but I very much doubt he will be a regular next season and fully expect 2/3 defenders incoming probably to replace him and Pennington.

I also wonder after being subbed against Bolton at HT at home and let's not forget he was extremely poor in both games nearly gifting Bolton a goal in the first leg Alexander feels his time is up especially as first choice.

Lord Bantam made a very good point about Bailey playing in a midfield 3 last season, allowing him more opportunities to get foward into goal scoring positions. I doubt he'd have the same opportunity to do that if he signed for us and was playing in a midfield 2.

Despite being 26 years old, he has actually only played 6 more senior games than the 19 year old Matty Young.

I hope I am wrong of course, but not convinced with this signing if confirmed.

I will however bow to our recruitment team's better judgement and knowledge of him and back him if signs.

So if you think Bailey is worth the same as Metcalfe, so somewhere between 1.5 to 2 million, do you think Bradford City should spend that sort of money to secure his services?

If we are seriously bidding for Bailey then wouldn’t he be a replacement for Power rather than Metcalfe

Elder had knee surgery in February ruling him out for the rest of the season and meant him missing out on a potential call up for the WC. I do wonder if it’s gone quiet on him that it’s to do with his fitness.

I can't see both coming in. We need to make sure we have sufficient wages for central midfield

Power was a defensive midfielder for us and didn't get forward enough, Bailey is a different player.

He went out on loan a lot but hardly played. It was Dundee where he got his break firstly on loan and then permanently.
